Tried to equip a PC with a magical trident (a weapon added in AV1) as a weapon last night...and none showed up as options on the screen.

Is there just a dearth of magical tridents or are the rest of the later introduced weapons also lacking magical versions?

Well, since magic weapons are determined by weapon group, not specific weapon, and tridents are spears, there are plenty of trident options. According to the Compendium, there are 175 magic weapons (that obviously includes all the different levels/plusses) that specifically mention spears, so that does not even include magic weapons that can be any group (like flaming and frost weapons).

It's an issue with the character builder (I assume you're using the online CB). A trident is a spear group weapon and has the heavy thrown and versatile properties. So what should appear is any enhancement that says "Any", "Any Ranged" "Any Melee" or "Spear". So quite number of enhancements could work on the Trident.

WotC never really explained enhancements well. Apparently didn't program them well either.

Apparently, the issue is either fixed or intermittent: I just tried again today and a number of options popped up.

I seem to remember something like that happening when I was in that panel too, and then I fiddled around and things worked. Can't recall what I did, but some of that interface is pretty obtuse.

That "show suggested items" box near the top next to the level range is also a bit of a pain at times. Some times their "suggestions" don't show what I want.
