CB's City of the Spider Queen v3.5

Prixo riffles through Drider 1's split carapace, searching for clues. From a low-slung belt about the beastly spider-man's lower half, Prixo finds a belt pouch containing:
[sblock]
1. 100 platinum florins.
2. A small glass-stoppered vial containing a viscous opaque orange liquid.
3. A second small cork-stoppered vial containing a thin clear blue liquid
4. A finely wrought short sword.

Prixo also notes that branded on Drider 1's back is a mark done in ochre and black ink, a tattoo of sorts.

Zarra, standing guard, hears the din of metal-shod feet shuffling toward the party's present location in the bazaar. From the sound of it, there might be 20-some-odd people on the way, all of the marching lock step and approaching from the north. Zarra remembers hearing of an exit, the Lower Bar, somewhere beneath the bazaar. Primarily used for in-and egress of merchant caravans and heavily guarded, the Lower Bar should be somewhere in the southeastern quadrant of the bazaar.

Lyssa, who had turned toward Blite to request ale or wine, spots a squad of drow bladesmen approaching from the north. The metal shield of one of the bladesmen glints as he passes under a torch, revealing the sigil of the Guard of Szith Morcane.

Lyssa

"The guard is arriving. Most impressive response time. We need to go now!" She gestures in the direction of the guard. "They are close and I don't think we want to tangle with them. What's the quickest way out of here?"

Ardyth : Female Human Wizard 10

Ardyth pulls a small bugle from her pack.

"Which way are we to head? I will try and cover our escape with this. It will produce fog."

Prixo grabs the belt pouch he found on the drider, and the nearby short sword.

(ooc: What size is the short sword - medium (as for a drow or 3.0 drider, and IMO a drider should be able to use medium weapons without penalty) or large (as for a RAW MM 3.5 drider?))

He tries to fix in his mind the strange brand so he will remember it. Then he heads back towards the others.

"Alex, thanks" he says. "Do you have a ticket out of here for us?"

"There is an exit below here, used for the merchants, but it's heavily gaurded; and no one is supposed to get out of the city without a writ. So Alex, what can you do about that? We either need a writ or a way to get through the gaurds." Then Zarra will begin to motion to everyone the way we should go to get below.

@ Prixo[sblock]If you're reading this and you're not kinem, that's okay, but I must confess that my preference is that you cease reading. :) That said, if I truly needed for something to be discretionary, I'd have sent it via e-mail solely to the player in question. Prixo, the short sword is not in the belt pouch; apologies for my poor wording. The short sword is laying on the ground directly in front of the fallen Drider 1. Prixo may certainly grab both it and the belt pouch if he wishes, but I did want to make it clear that the belt pouch does not contain the short sword. You may simply edit in Prixo taking the short sword if you wish.[/sblock]
The party begins walking south, away from the impending approach of the guard. Hael, having found not much of interest on the fallen form of Drider 2, wings back over to the others and rejoins them on foot. Discussing options as they walk, everyone spies the general mayhem and destruction wrought in the market. In addition to market stalls and shop fronts on fire, trampled customers and merchants litter the bazaar byways; the crowd seems to have gathered momentum further south and many more folk have been left for dead or have already died.

"A writ, you say?" Alex replies almost happily "I am afraid I have none. Nor do I have a way to get one. I dare not report back to my matron with out information and I will not tell her I am too weak to leave the city with out a silly peace of paper. We can try to sneak out. Although, I have no problem with a more 'shiny' method of exit." he says putting a hand on his chain.
