CB's City of the Spider Queen v3.5

Blite lets out a deep breath once the guards have left. "That wasn't too tough. Alex, you must know the way," he says, heading towards the tunnel to the east.

Hearing Hael and Zarra, "I've never been there, but we'll find it. It's easy not getting lost round here. I'm sure I don't want to pass through that gate again in a hurry though."

"I used to live there. I haven't been there for quite a few months though, but I should be able to get us there without getting lost."

Then as we are walking Zarra will say "The inability to teleport into Maerimydra is new, if it is true. When last I was there, there was no problem with it. The other thing that struck me, was that Miss Morcane has asked for us to make sure that House T'sarran be destroyed, but they have been long time allies of House Morcane. Also that some of the other Houses that she said to loot are all the Houses that have more power than House Morcane, they are the major ruling Houses of the city. So it sounds to me that Miss Morcane and probably the others of the Morcane House are trying to use us to bring them to power in Maerimydra."

"I do agree with Master Dwarf about the Dryder head. If anyone has the ability to talk to the dead and make them give us some answers then that'll be the best way to get some info. Being as that Miss Morcane did not give us the writ required to get out of the city, then I am fairly certain that she also sent them to 'test' us. She probably thought that she was doing us a favor."

"I do not know the intentions of my matron. I can only hope that I find a way to repay the kindness and mercy her and her house have so graciously shown me and so many other creatures in my short stay in this city." Alex says obviously being facetious. Turning to Blite "I am afraid I have never been there before, Zarra please lead the way."

"We will speak to the head this evening, though I doubt it will know anything. If the driders were indeed sent by House Morcane, it would undoubtedly have been through a series of intermediaries in order to defeat exactly such an interrogation."

"Nevertheless, I will prepare the proper incantation when I perform my devotionals."

Prixo says "I'm from Maerimydra, but I was in a ... I may not remember every detail of the route. But we'll find it.

As for which houses, if any, we should attack - that can only be decided once we see the real situation in the city." Perhaps I should say no more for now - Morcane could easily be scrying on us. But I doubt she can do so for the whole duration of this journey. Perhaps I will bring it up another time.

Grimacing as he puts weight on his wounded leg Hael mounts up onto his brown and black cave bat and then turns to Zarra and Prixo. "Good enough. Hop on Zarra and we can take point for scouting on my beast. Prixo can lead the ground party while we check for hazards ahead from above."

Zarra looks a little shocked and says "Oh, on that? I usually stick to my feet. It is safe right? Well ok." Then as she comes over to climb on she will say to Hael "I can try to mend that wound up for you if you like," as she takes out a wand and carefully examines it.

Bow at the ready, Prixo heads forward, relying on his superior darkvision to hopefully spot any dangers.

"Ach, don't bother, its just a scratch not worth worrying about for itself. If that stick can take the fire out of my leg from the spider's unclean bite that'd be another matter though. I can feel it trying to spread." Upon closer inspection the lightning scorch marks upon his ashen skin are indeed superficial as apparently his dwarven toughness was able to handle the part of the bolt he was unable to fully dodge. "Hang on." Hael clicks at the bat and gives it a kick in the flanks to get it in sweeping broad winged motion.

Hael orients himself before climbing on the back of his flying bat. Finding that there seems to be but the one large tunnel that heads east out of the Lower Bar, and that for the moment at least there are no other side branches or crevices indicating alternate paths, Hael invites Zarra to join him atop his flying beast. With a series of clicks as commands, Hael instructs the bat to glide upward. The tunnel height in this section is 20 feet; due to the many stalagmites on the floor, boulders, and stalactites hanging from the tunnel ceiling, neither Hael nor Zarra have an unobstructed view down the tunnel.

K'yorl, having bid Hael to stow the drider head until this evening, collects her robes and begins to pluck her way down the rocky tunnel, followed by Lyssa, Ardyth, Alex, Blite, and Prixo. Attentive and with his bow at the ready, Prixo keeps his eyes sharp and his ears pricked for any sign of pursuit or trouble ahead.

The trek is slow going. Given the terrain, the many obstacles that must be climbed over or walked around, and the general unevenness of the terrain, after one hour of walking, Zarra and Hael determine that the party has probably covered roughly one mile.

I put the time at 10 pm. Give or take.
