OOC: The wall, the size L of the giant spider, the 5' narrowness of the doorway, and the broken down door work in concert to preclude movement on a diagonal past the wall into the room for characters other than Roscoe. The wall, particularly, is the source of your inability to move on a diagonal (see PHB 192, Playing on a Grid, "Corners. Diagonal movement can't cross the corner of a wall, large tree, or other terrain feature that fills the space.") The size of the spider, the narrowness of the doorway, and the broken down door are additional complicating factors.

Roscoe, however, with his Halfling Nimbleness ability, is an exception to the complicating factors described above. His Halfling Nimbleness does the trick because it permits him to "move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than [his]." Upshot: Roscoe can move underneath the giant spider and can make it to H30. Here, he'll be passing through the spider's squares, not moving on a diagonal around the wall. If anyone's interested, cites I relied on for this include: PHB 28, 190 (difficult terrain), 191 (moving around other creatures, size categories), 192 (playing on a grid), and MM 6 (size categories).

Roscoe muscles past Spec and darts beneath the giant spider, slashing at the hulking thing's underbelly as he maneuvers adroitly into the room, and dealing 9 points of damage.

Colden itches to rush forwards to help with the spider but knowing that doing so will expose their rear he decides to stay put in case they get flanked.

OOC: Colden readies to attack anything that comes from the direction of the pit

Guran hears attacks and movement, and he advances around the corner to the spot Roscoe just vacated (I-30 on the map, which is 5 feet of movement if counting it diagonally). He attacks the giant spider with a thrown handaxe, then retreats 5' back to the hallway in order to allow any others to get past him and attack.

. . . and again I forgot the Sneak Attack damage . . .
Please add 2d6 to that damage. (Sigh! :) )

OOC: Not only that, but a handaxe does 1d6 damage, not 1d4. I'm leaving that part as is in order to upgrade my system for remembering this stuff. (It's a text file. Yes, I have now changed it to 1d6+3 instead of 1d4+3 there.

OOC: The giant spider has half cover (+2 to AC) from an attack made from I30.

Guran stepped forward and flicked a handaxe at the spider. The axe whizzed neatly past Spec's ear, but flew over top the spider's behemoth hulk without harming the arachnid, landing sandwiched between the south wall and the spider. Guran saw that he'd missed with the axe, and darted back around the corner.

Spec, his shield raised, calls upon his god to bring sown sacred flame upon the spider. And his prayers are answered.

OOC: DC 13 vs. [roll0] radiant damage.

Round 2

The hoary spider opened its maw wide. Spec could see clear venom dripping from its two foremost fangs. The beast unfurled its hulk, turned to the Halfling, and bit with all its might, hoping for a tasty snack. It missed. Roscoe found himself alone in the room, confronted by the behemoth. Its body blocked most of the light shed by Roscoe's short sword, darkening the corridor and hallway.

Fulgrim, who had been watching the group's flank, spotted a pair of eyes glowing yellow at the end of the hallway to the west. An orc stood at the far end of the hall. He'd been listening carefully; this one had crept up unawares. Colden and Guran heard stone grating on stone from somewhere down the end of the eastern side of the hallway. Colden looked but couldn't make out the source of the noise. Guran's eyes were better. Part of the ceiling in L29 shifting open.

[sblock=ooc]Both Fulgrim and Colden had readied actions from Round 1. Both may take their readied actions now. Their actions for Round 2 will go on their turn this round (for Forged Fury, that happens to be right after the readied actions are resolved).

Forged Fury didn't expressly state that Fulgrim attacked, but I think that's a plausible interpretation given circumstances. Fulgrim may therefore take his readied action from Round 1, plus his turn for Round 2. With respect to Colden, Colden expressly stated he would protect the flank, so he also may take his readied action (I assume attack) from Round 1, plus his turn for Round 2. There's a problem, however. Colden has heard but not spotted the ceiling panel, requiring more investigation on his part. I don't imagine Colden can see very well. The light source is inside Room 17, tucked into the corner of the room with an intervening wall, corridor, and corner. The spider's body is sizeable and blocking the doorway, impeding the normally good strong light shed by Spec's light cantrip. Condition: dim light.

Forged Fury and Skarsgard, you both should declare what readied action you're taking, if any. Forged Fury, go ahead and also give me Fulgrim's action for Round 2.[/sblock]
