CDG on regenerating creatures

Given that you can use a bow or crossbow to CDG someone if you are adjacent to them, I see no problem with allowing a ranged touch spell to do the same thing.

It's not specifically disallowed by the rules, and it certainly seems to be within the intent of the rules to me. As long as you are close enough to target a vulnerable area with an attack that does real damage, it should work.

How about a sling? Or a shuriken?

I don't know that I agree with "isn't specifically disallowed by the rules".

The rules state that a CDG may be performed using a melee attack, or a bow or crossbow.

It seems they went out of their way to avoid saying "a melee attack or a ranged attack".

*shrug* Your welcome to your opinion.

I just let them CDG with anything that does Fire or Acid if they're not in combat and not limited by time. To do anything else is kind of being too silly. If you're not in combat who cares if they CDG with a torch instead of holding it to his body for a minute. Same thing really.

There's nothing wrong with making a CDG with a torch... but let's say it does 1d4 fire damage (is there an official number?)

On a critical, that's an average of 5 points of damage, from the troll's 63. And he has to make a Fort save DC 15, with a bonus of +11, or die... but that's not that hard.

And while you're trying to gently saute him to death, he's regenerating 5 of the subdual points you used to knock him out in the first place every round.

If it's a rogue doing it, he gets to add his sneak attack damage, and things look a lot worse for the troll. But apart from that, a CDG with a torch is hardly a sure bet!

Of course, you're doing 5 damage every round while he regenerates 5 damage every round, so he'll never actually wake up, unless you roll below average damage for several rounds in a row.

So you'd kill the troll eventually. You'd just have to hit him over and over and over and over...

(It's like beating a dead troll!)
