CE vs. N (FFA): Very Young Howling Dragon vs. Thunder Worm

OOC: There is no back of the book, the magma hurler is listed as CR 3 in the stat-block. CE is still at CR 3 while N is at CR 5. Normally the Mini Handbook creatures roll over and die as soon as you touch them, I don't remember a previous example where the creature was a munchkin. I think the designers thought that the rock wouldn't hit very often, because there is a wide range between its ranged 'to hit' and its melee 'to hit'. It only hit the guttersnipe once with the rock, but the ooze is much easier to pick on. But I admit the damage is nasty.

Round 386: Gaylord steps to 35N5E, spits up a rock, and throws it. It hits (rolled 8) for another 25. The ooze has 40 hp left.

OOC: No AoO for the ranged weapon? The lava ooze is Large, isn't it?

Mr. Lava Ooze, finally within range of Fokker, will proceed with the smack down, grab, and constrict business at hand.

OOC2: Holy freakin' cow! CR3!

OOC: You're right, I didn't notice. It misses the AoO. (Rolled 14)

The lava slams Gaylord with a pseudopod. (Rolled 21) 8 damage takes Gaylord down to 28 hp. He ignores the fire damage but is pulled into the ooze and takes another 8 constrict damage. (Rolled 29 vs. 24 Grp check) He has 20 hp left.

Round 387: Gaylord slams the ooze back. (Rolled 13-4) The ooze takes 15 and has 25 hp left.

The lava constricts once for 17 total damage. Gaylord has 3 hp left.

Round 388: Gaylord slams for 16. The ooze has 9 hp.

The ooze fails twice to constrict! (Rolled 27 vs. 30 & 18 vs. 27 Grp checks)

Round 389: Gaylord slams for 15. The ooze is dying. Gaylord steps to 35N5E and spits up a rock.

Next up for N in round 389: a warbeast rhinoceros. (MM II)

Ricardo the warbeast rhino trots into the arena to 35N60E and huffs and puffs, scratching with a big paw at the ground. The scale mail barding clanks against his thick hide and the huge, boiled-leather saddle is riderless, though Ricardo sways as if to hold in a rider.OOC: Ricardo is prepping for a powerful charge, if he still gets it. I think the stat block in the MMII (and the 3.5 update manual) are in error for not listing it.

OOC: Ricardo can do double damage with his powerful charge.

Round 390: Gaylord steps to 35N10E, throws, and loogies up another rock. He misses by a mile. (Rolled 7-2)

Ricardo charges to 35N15E and skewers Gaylord. (Rolled 17+2) 39 points of damage finishes off the Fokker.

Next up for CE in round 390: a spriggan. (FF) It can enter the arena in either form.

A humanoid resembling an ugly gnome, with greasy reddish hair and dull yellow skin enters the arena...it's over 7' tall, but yet still resembles a gnome. Holding a short sword the length of a gnormal gnome, Gnube the Spriggan enters at 65n, moves to 50n 10e and tries to stab the big lug.

Ricardo was too focused on his charge to avoid Gnube's sword. (Rolled 18) 7 points of damage takes Ricardo down to 96 hp.

Round 391: Ricardo steps to 40N10E and gores Gnube for 24. Gnube has 13 hp left.
