Celestial/Fiendish template questions

I have a question regarding the Damage reduction on these.

Firstly, the hit dice chart is referring to the die rolled for HP each class level(if applied to a player character). If this is based on the number of dice the character have, does the level of damage reduction change based on the level of the character? Say when he gets his fourth hit die(hits level 4), does he go from no DR to DR 5/magic?

Yes. I think there are some templates that specify racial HD, and some that specific that different things happen to the creature according to its HD, but fiendish and celestial don't work that way. All creatures with these templates get all the benefits, and you use the creature's HD (total HD) to see what the benefit is at any given HD.

It refers to the Character Level of the NPC/PC.

Character Level is how many hit dice you have, but doesn't include Level Adjustment.

ECL = CL + LA

So a Human Fighter 10 has 10 hit dice and uses HD = 10 on that chart.

So a creature with racial hit dice doesn't include those when calculating hit dice, Risner? Or were you just not accounting for creatures who begin with racial HD?

Character level, in a nutshell, is Hit Dice. Or the other way round, if you prefer. ;) Mind you, I think that was already posted. Eh, never mind.

And yeah, they're all considered equal. . . even when they're not. :hmm:

Character Level = "total of all hit dice."

Doesn't matter if it is Class HD, Racial HD, Animal Companion (If you could be one) HD.

There is one rule that alters this. If you have a LA rating (+0, +1 or anything other than "-") and the race has One (1) Racial HD only, then if you add class levels to it the single racial HD goes away.

So an Gnome (1 HD) that becomes a Rogue is still only 1 HD, Rogue 1.
