Centaurs - Seeking your thoughts on a homebrew race

MechaPilot, do you have penalties for entering buildings and other structures? I would imagine that a centaur would not have a nice time climbing a narrow winding stairwell in someone's tower.

Ooh, yeah. This would make centaurs real interesting. It'd be cool if it could be worked so that entering a house or nearly any sort of civilized building was a hardship without seriously impacting their ability to get into dungeons.

So far, I only have this penalty for them:

"Equine Body. If you allow it, a medium, or smaller, size creature can ride you like a horse. If you allow yourself to be ridden, you continue to act independently of your rider.

Additionally, your horse body may render certain tasks more difficult, or simply impossible. For example, climbing a rope or a ladder will be difficult (or impossible) for you. Climbing a rope means using only your upper body strength to lift yourself. If your weight, plus that of any equipment you're carrying, exceeds your carrying capacity then you can't pull yourself up. Likewise, climbing a ladder requires five feet for movement for every foot climbed."

As far as getting through doorways, as large creatures they will have to squeeze through doors made for medium-sized creatures. And they probably can't get through doors made for small-sized creatures; I may need to note that in the race write-up.

Aye, like that. I was also just thinking about how the average homeowner might not be too pleased about a horse squeezing through the front door . . . and it just dawned on me that shopkeepers might not care for a centaur in his store. Especially if it's a china shop!

Not so much about the mechanics, but I'd consider making a note of it in the centaur's size description so that players would be well aware of it.
