Chagmat!

ok, did a comparison to the chitines... while there are some notable superficial similarities, they are very different creatures. :)

Plus the spider-eye goblins* and the narleth from CC1. And of course, Aranea and Ettercap. If you picture in crabmen, stingers, and sandmaskers/scorpionfolks, the arachnidmen niche is really crowded. Bah, at least, we don't have yet crablicemen.

A little comment, though: "A chagmat can either be a fighter or a cleric, and its class is determined at birth." -- This is so AD&D2... ;)

(* IMC, they are known as Aragais, and they have been modified to get a burrow speed (20 ft.), 8 legs, and improved trip, their full attack routine is bite/claw/claw/claw/claw/trip.

1E my friend, 1E... :)

and thank you gez - there you go krish, IIRC aranea are not connected to the drow in any way, so there! :p

Boz: Well, the Aranea aren't CE either. ;)

Gez: Not to burst your bubble, but crabs aren't arachnids. Only scorpions and spiders are (well, actually there is a third group of arachnids, but I don't know what they are called in english.) :D

That 3rd group is commonly called 'harvesters.' They have 1 body segment, 8 legs, and don't normally cast webs (although they still have the ability to make them). Daddy-long-legs are an example of such.
