Okay, since no one's started one yet, and I don't want to hijack the other thread, and because I have some questions for UK, I'm starting this thread.

So: How do you deal with CRs for templates? I mean, the CR is adjusted according to the base creature's size, so which size do you choose for the base?

I've got a subtype/ability called Immaterial. Basically, it's like gaseous form - I've got a monster similar to the crimson death. You can pass through small (1") cracks (but can't pass through solid objects); physical attacks have a 25% miss chance; you still require a magic weapon to hit an immaterial creature. I figure it's about +0.8; what do you think?

I take this one: A template doesn't include size adjustments, because those adjustments are included with the base creature. Thus a template is a simple package of some abilities with a certain cost applied to it.

Hey Kerrick mate! :)

Fire away - I'll help if I can.

Calculate the changes and then add them.

This is already included in the base creatures make up - as Rulemaster pointed out (thnaks for stepping in mate).

Isn't that an Ooze then?

Well certainly the miss chance is +0.5 (or maybe more). Invulnerability/Magic is perhaps +0.25 to +0.5. So +0.8 is perfectly acceptable I guess.

Two questions:

1) where can I get this PDF
2) when are you going to make the kick-butt excell spread sheet that lets you enter everything and then automatically calculates the CR and gives you a base stat block to work from?

Thanks guys, that's what I wanted to know.

Well, kind of... but it's gaseous. And undead.

Well, I actually went ahead and made an Excel spread sheet based on the pdf to calculate CR. It's a bit crude and a first draft so there are probably some errors, but I think it's close (though you need to have read and understood the pdf to be able to ues it I think).

Anyway, anyone who wants to look at it and playtest it can. I don't know how to attach it though, so someone would have to explain that to me if there was any interest.

I'll check it out. If you look down a bit, you'll see a button labeled "Manage Attachments." Click on that, and you can upload/attach files.
