Challenge to WotC: Initiative

I'm not comparing the importance of the issue. I'm comparing the accuracy of the characterization of the dolphin question as a "dare."

Sure. But I question the accuracy of calling my challenge a "dare".

Heck, as I said earlier, "challenge" really isn't a good word, either, because there is nothing challenging about it. It should be really, really easy for WotC to answer, and answering should cost them nothing.

Sure, it looks like answering this one question will cost them nothing. But if they answer it, a lot of people are going to see that and start posting their own questions about 4E. And then WotC will have to choose between having people spend a lot of time answering 4E questions (time they could and probably should be spending working on the rules), which would mean they'd be revealing a lot more than they're ready to at this point (including stuff that may not even be finalized yet), or not answering the questions and generating a lot of bad feelings in their customer base ("How come you answered his question and not mine?!?!?").

So I'd say there's a rather significant cost to answering the question.

Time from complaint to permanent action? Less than one month.

I think the time from complaint to permanent action on the Initiative "challenge" might take WotC a little longer to answer... If I had to guess, I'd say it'll take them about six or seven months before they give us a concrete answer.

Which will look a lot more like the 3e transition, which was smoother IMHO.

Wait I'm confused...

Does this mean WOTC can, or cannot print "Dolphin Safe" on the PHB?

I think that depends on whether or not the myserious 8th race is the sahuagin....

Of course, there's always the unlikely possibility that initiative in 4e really *has* somehow become so deeply intertwined with various other mechanics that they just can't tell us how it'll work without having to explain all those interactions, etc.

Just sayin'..... :)
