Champions of Ruin

I actually really like the inclusion on planar touchstones in the Planar Handbook. Not the actual idea, mind you, which sort of felt like incentive for exploring the planes in-game and inventing a new, weird mechanic out-of-game. But I really like how they were all adventure sites, with little mini-quests, and how some of them were really imaginative and occasionally twisted (I'm thinking of the derro in Carceri who's forced to write his memoirs one page at a time, then burn them to stay warm). If I get more adventure sites in the planes to play with, I'm happy. I'll just ignore the mechanics.

I completely agree -- they were the most fun bit of the book to read.

Will Champions of Ruin repeat stuff from Lords of Darkness, do you think?

Cheers

Learning how to play an evil campaign WELL is still IMHO beyond the capabilities of 99% of gamers (including me of course). We have tried that a few times, and it always end up in troubles or boredom. I hope to see a book which offers a good insight into this type of canpaigns, but I am skeptic that the writers have seriously concentrated on that, instead of writing just another book of "character stuff", unless WotC has carefully selected authors from that 1% :)

Sometimes WOTC's choices boggle the mind. Why this particular topic for an FR book, when there are so many other areas that need updating? At least we're getting Waterdeep, but a book on the Heartlands, Dalelands, Cormy, or the Vilhon Reach would be more interesting to me than the described contents of Champions of Ruin.

More races? After the suckage of Goliaths, Illumians, and raptorians, I'm not optimistic.
