Change in WotC pricing structure?

Well, I just checked at Tin Soldier. The 3 core books are $50 each, $150 for all 3. Keep on the Shadowfell is also $50! This is because it's apparently a hardcover module, but still.

I think I just found the limit to how much of WotC's bitch I can be.

Yes, the gift set is one item. And honestly, since Drew is leaving Tin Soldier and Jason has already left Walrus & Carpenter (and my wholesale account has been withdrawn) there's very little reason for me to put up with shipping delays and fight the city traffic, for the privilege of paying as much for each book as for the whole set from amazon.

Huh, didn't know that.

P.S. Drew is having farewell drinks on monday 15th April, starting in store and moving on. Perhaps the Sydney ENWorlders could meet up there? I know I'd like to put faces to names...

Sure, why not. I'm the kitty.

Hong transcends the bitch limit!

I've been trying to support my FLGS, but with 4e I've reached the bitch limit as well. The price difference is just too much. S&B is now Amazon's bitch.

Be aware that if you order Shadowfell from Amazon and want it shipped early, you'll pay +$US 10 (+$US 5 per shipment, +$US 5 per product). I'm planning on buying Shadowfell at least from Milsims ($28 assuming I can't get a pre-order discount) and then considering where to get core books. I'll probably get them from Milsims as well; maybe $AU20 more expensive than Amazon (before pre-order discount) but much less hassle.

I gave up on Australian retail for a lot of things a few years ago. Books in particular. Now I just keep a list and order in bulk from Amazon every couple of months to dilute the shipping cost over a number of items. There's really no way to swallow paying Australian retail prices when you can effectively get books shipped to you from Amazon for less than half the cost.

From what I have been told, the full set (all 3 books) will cost around $250 in our stores.

I am seriously considering using amazon, although I still believe very strongly in supporting our gaming shops.

What shop did you get these prices from? And what was it in DKK? I am considering buying from Faraos, but if this is the pricerange, i'm going to the internets.

I think they might have something wrong. WotC has the cover prizes in their own site too and for much less. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/217187400

I rang Mil Sims a little while ago about some books long overdue (WotC, Green Ronin, Paizo, Goodman Games, I am looking at you!). Apparently, the entirety of the Australian RPG market consists of less than 1% of the world's total. I then asked for plainer speech and I was told that that the RPG industry does not see the overseas market as enough of a cost-effective exercise and because of that, it will always play second fiddle to the local (US) markets.

I would dearly love to be proved wrong about this, I really would. Me personally: I am still completely unconvinced that a new edition is worth the money that Australians will have to pay for it. In this day and age, overseas customers need to be treated better and made to feel like part of the team. We try hard to keep up by listening to a lot of the carry-on here at ENWorld of late, but I feel that we get very little back lately.

I'd be curious to how many other Australians/other overseas customers are still fence-sitters because they feel they are still in the dark about 4th Edition, or perhaps are reacting similarly to myself and are 'a little cold' because all they see is salesmen peddling their wares (eg: It is, sir, the latest fashion in New York; all the gentlemen are wearing plaid cummerbunds....).

WTF? Drew is leaving?

Bummer :(

Hey, Leaving drinks and meeting people sounds like a plan. :D

I've preordered 2 gift sets for my group from Amazon. I'll try to pick up the adventures locally.

I've been ordering a lot from Amazon lately. So. Much. Cheaper.
Galaxy must have felt the difference, I got half my bonus dollars last 1/2 year, to normal :P
