Change to Toughness?

I'm really not a big fan of Toughness, and wanted to change it. Would a straight +1 to AC be appropriate? The successive Toughness feats in MotW could be +2, +3, and +4, but not stacking with one another.

What type of AC bonus? Would they all stack? Also, your hurting Dodge by doing this. Toughness has it's problems but why totally redefine it as an AC bonus? Why not just come up with a new feat for that purpose?

Natural armor, perhaps? Make it much better than Dodge, then, since it'd work constantly.

Here's an idea, if you want to keep it HP-related: For each time you take toughness, it improves the Death's Door period (-1 to -10) HP by 3 points. So if ya take it once, you die at -13 HP instead of -10 HP. Something that isn't THAT helpful, but ya never know when it might save you.

I've used that and it worked nicely. It allows PCs to live longer, and that is very important.

Feat should never be scaled by level, none of the core feat are, and you should make none that works like that.

While I agree with that, it can be argued that both power attack and expertise scale with level since they both depend on base attack bonus. And the only way to increase that is to increase one's level.

So, what if you made it depend on the base fort save? You get 2 hps for each +1 of base fort save you have.

Huh, never thought of the death's door thing. Interesting.

I don't think it renders Dodge useless as a natural AC bonus. It just allows Dodge and it to stack, providing a more complete defense.

The reason I say it makes dodge useless is it gives a +1 AC always. Dodge only gives you +1 to one opponent and only when not flatfooted. Dodge also has a prerequiste, Toughness does not.
