changing shape while wearing stuff

Notice the 'Sizing' property for weapons in Complete Adventurer - +1 bonus equivalent, allows a weapon to change size when its wielder polymorphs.

If weapons did that automatically, that property would be redundant... but fortunately, none of the shapechange-type effects mentions armor or weapons changing size (as opposed to enlarge-type effects, which do).

Skip's ruling in RotG came out of nowhere.

Excellent point.

However, I could still see a few advantages of purchasing sizing even if the weapon did automatically size with you. For one, if you dropped the weapon (causing it to revert back to its original size, as per the "enlarge person" spell's description), it would retain its size. Secondly, there are more reasons to size a weapon than just to use it on as a differently-sized creature; you could use sizing to shrink a greatsword down to a pin and carry it in your pocket. In fact, going along with the description of the sizing modifier, a weak wizard may, in fact, wish to carry around a dagger-sized greatsword for everyday use and then size it into a greatsword for when he turns into an ogre. Normally, the weapon would enlarge only to a large dagger, but the sizing modifier would allow the wizard to (with another standard action) make it even bigger.

Again: not definitive, but still conceivable.
