Character Builder: Multiple Weapons

... they noted it in the list of upgrades ...
Like I said: Needs better communication! Who reads those?? (Besides MerricB, obviously ...)

But in all seriousness (just in case someone at WotC is reading), I bought DDI last month when the CB was already as official as it gets, so I never would have seen a list of improvements. Although I appreciate that most CB development work is probably directed at keeping up with the new classes, feats, etc. that keep rolling out, a little UI work here might go a long way (not that the's UI's bad, it's good, but it can be better).

Similarly, I only found out by accident recently that you can type into the 'hit points remaining' and 'healing surges used' fields. Is there anything else you can just type into directly or mark as used to faciliate laptop usage of the character sheet?

Also, is there anything other than laborious manual editing for getting the feats and class abilities to flow onto more than one row? Just having the first 9 words of a feat or ability starts to lose its usefulness quite quickly!

Yes, you can click on the check-boxes of your power cards to indicate when they've been used. Milestones & action points are also editable.

There's an option in the character sheet menu for "short rest" and "extended rest" that will automatically reset values.

Cheers!

Good question. All the PCs in my game have word wrap working on abilites working except the warlock. It's a bit frustrating for him, especially since the PCs started at 11th level and he doesn't remember what all his abilities do. It'd be cool to figure out how to fix that.

Interesting. It's possible that might be fixed in the next update (in a week's time).

Note that you can also change the location of the various boxes on the character sheet; there's a menu option to unlock them, and then you can drag them around and delete them. I tend to delete the "workspace" entries. You can then save that format and import it for use with other character sheets.

Cheers!

I didn't realize the CB character sheet viewer had the option to show more than one weapon with each power card. That is very useful. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be fully functional. I just tried it with a third level elf ranger character. With his first level daily power, Hunt's End, it worked just fine and gave me the option of listing both his ranged and melee weapon options. But with Twin Strike, one of his at-will powers, it only seems to let me equip the bow (the weapon he has equiped in his hands in the gear section of the character sheet). And for the encounter power Off-Hand Strike, it won't let me equip his short sword (or any weapon) as his off-hand weapon for the power card.

There are a few bugs in it, definitely. :)

Here's the link to their current "Known Issues" list. This does get updated from time to time (and I've noticed them fixing previous issues in upgrades):

Answer

The off-hand weapon is a known issue.

Cheers!

Just want to note (bumping this very useful thread in the process) that this text flow issue still seems to exist. I'm printing out five characters for a playtest and one of them has this text flow issue (only in the Class Features section; his racial abilities and feats are fine). Guess what? This one's a warlock too.

My wizard has this problem as well, FWIW. The workaround I use is a landscape character sheet that I then set the non-wrapping text to a column about twice as wide as normal. But yeah, this is one of my longstanding gripes about the CB.

Try lengthening the column, by unlocking the panels and making some more room for class abilities by removing some others (you usually don't need 3-4 lines for your languages) and stretching out the class abilities column.

I've found that when the sheet doesn't properly word-wrap everything and just cuts it all off, it's because there isn't enough space to do things properly.
