Character concept

Right now, one of my players (who's character died last session) has been wanting to try out a combination of any multiclassing and hybrid to make a new character around the idea of something he wants to call an inquisitor. From the way he describes it, it seems like he wants something along the idea of an avenger- as in cloth armor oversized weapon the sorts. But along with that, he wants to be similar to a divine ranged striker. Me being the good GM and All I registered at en world to ask you pros for ideas about a ranged divine striker.......with a giant sword :). Other notes: he's made it very clear that he wants to use lots of intelligence and wisdom in this hybrid/ MC class (partially because he's a fan of devas)

There is an avenger power called focused fury (wisdom based).. that works both ranged and close. The sling is a classic ranged weapon of a certain avenger who took down a giant. But There is a feat that also enables the Avengers core element (the re-roll power to work against a ranged target)

My Deva Avenger the minute she found focused fury retrained took Great Bow.. and away we go.

OK it doesnt include any need for multiclassing ... oh and if you want to get your ranged basic attacks nice there was a feat that enabled perception/discipline (wisdom) based archery (cant remember the name I read of it in a Dragon Article - but we have been allowing "ranged training" for along time at my house so it wasnt a big deal anyway. The article focused on Sehanine I seem to recall.

Thanks for the advice! Any ideas on ways to implement spell caster style abilities along with the use of things like tomes or orbs? Obviously warlock or wizard MC/ hybrid but anything more specific? This would/ might be in addition to the use of a bow. And I'll let my player know about your idea

Various Avenger abilities can be relatively spell cast style already...

that said...

Wizard has Intelligence and Wisdom being significantly important (not so much for a Warlock where Cha is dom) ... and I have taken a multiclass learned spellcaster just for the Arcana and Flavor of access to a Familiar on occasion.

A Hybrid Avenger Wizard could be fun (but when I go this route its human all the way) Cantrips can rock The feat Power of Arcana only available if your deity has an Arcana Domain (like Corellion) allows the avenger power Radiant Vengeance to operate as Arcana as well as Divine. Once I start enhancing my at-wills white lotus feats are great (see White Lotus Riposte it feels Avengery even). That Power of Arcana (gives you +1 to any Arcane spell used following the use of Radiant Vengeance o could make up for not having Deva stats. --- it almost feels like cheating but this thing called Arcane Reserves boosts all your arcane at-wills +2 damage after you have expended your arcane encounter powers and that could be very much right away for a hybrid.

I would go with Invoker actually.

Avenger damage isn't much better (their striker feature is in hitting more often, which works out to higher damage, but doesn't feel like it in play).

You can go with a staff or ruin, weapon focus, syberis shard of the mage, high wis...and it does decent damage to gobs of people. Pick the moon domain power and you can have an at-will (hand of radiance) that does 1d4+14 to 3 targets as an at will at low heroic tier.

Plus you can summon angels.

I also think Avenger has a ranged class feature path (at least I recall seeing lots of ranged powers in one of the supplements and the class feature was ranged friendly).

Sadly enough, there is only 1 ranged weapon friendly attack on the avenger list. Everything else ranged is implement required (fine if you're hybrid monk or elf warlock/pact bow), or has a range, but teleports somebody adjacent and makes a melee attack.

I do agree with you about the use of Invoker, though.

Divine plus Divine do make it easier by far to find compatible feats that is for sure (and wisdom is king)...

Then too the character could be be a member of the Inquisition ;p - duh duhh duh duhhhhhh.

OK my funny bone is broken.
