Character maintenance

I like having a worn character sheet. Feels comforting and homely to me. When they get too bad, I'll rewrite them onto a new one - although this is generally tempting fate - tends to get the character killed IME. :uhoh:

Some of the players in that group use various PC tools and print new sheets as needed... Seems a good way to do things?

Sheet????

Character sheet? what is this concept?

Since nearly forever I've used the marbled composition notebooks for my characters.. Write up a char, give him a few pages for notes and updates and such, then should he become completely illegible start a new copy on the next available page.

If my chars died I just rolled up a new one on the next available page. It worked great, and left me with a nice 'living journal' of the character concepts I'd toyed with in a given campaign.

The last pc I ran I deviated a bit, and typed up my original in notepad, then tossed it into a three ring binder. Since I was using alot of rules (and spells) from various sources I just typed up brief descriptions of them too, and probably saved myself from a hernia. Worked pretty nicely for me, but I did kind miss the feeling of having a nice marbled cover to look at.

In our group we have one player to note the changes to HP and Ability Scores on a special party HP-dokument. It's a simple list with columns for every player with character name and normal maximum hp for each character. Raging characters are never told how many HP are left.
The XP are noted only by the DM. We never know exactly how many XP we (our characters) have. There is no in game reason to know your XP. If you are a wizard and you need many xp for a spell or such after you just leveled up you ask the DM if you have enough for that or not.
If the DM tells us we leveled up I print out a new Character sheet or if only minor changes occur overwrite the parts with a black ink pen. I only need a new sheet every new level or two.
Ammunition is noted on small "post it" if I use that kind of weapon a lot. Otherwise I write it with very soft pencils on sheet itself. It's easily erased without much damage to the paper.

I keep a sheet of notebook paper with my character sheet for tracking things like HP and amuntion, my character sheet stays under the plastic cover of my notebook so it wont get damaged in a random spill.

I just write lightly where I have to erase often and use a Rotring Ticky Eraser.
At some point a new sheet is still necessary, of course, but that's only after a couple months, usually.

Bye

I'd have to say the whole electronic thing wins by far on here.

Once again technology kills the good 'ol fashion ways. Blasted new fangled stuff...
