Character Name Generator...

I don't have an account, and I can see it.

It appears to be based entirely on the letters input, and the race selected. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be random at all.

Oh well, you get what you pay for, I suppose ;)

So, not a generator, just a list, the selction of which is guided by input. I wonder if someone could go through the combinations, find out how many possibilties there are, and add the whole list here to see how many of the names are truly original?

Heh... Seems any kind of Male I input will be named Kevmorn.

It changes all the random descriptors (IE Kevmorn the Bold, or Kevmorn the Stupid...) but the first name is always Kevmorn.

"Whoa, how come every time someone in our group named Kevmorn dies we seem to meet up with another Kevmorn a few days later???"

"Lotta Kevmorns I guess..."

"You don't think that's weird? That we just keep meeting all the Kevmorns of the world?"

"Dude- what's wrong with you? Next you're gonna be asking how fighters can manage to pull opponents closer without using magic?"

Its more random appearing if you don't enter any of the 'first letter of..' blocks.

Altho it seems WoTC habit of smashing two words together goes on.. "Panlannan Beestinger" and "Kevhand Ettinkiller"?

Without being too handy in Excel or a similar spreadsheet, you could quickly make a fairly good name generator by creating columns of name elements and then randomly stringing them together: randomly select number of elements (for a mix of short and long names), randomly index into the name column. Use a COUNT function to determine number of elements in a column so you can add more elements as you think of them.

Did the equivalent in Perl ages ago and it generates excellent names and, of course, you can always use different columns of elements for gender, nationality, etc.

It would take maybe 30 minutes to setup; less if you are an excel pro, a bit more if you need to use the help doc.

Easy enough to setup a page of pre-generated names and print them out for ref use in a campaign as well.

If there is interest, I'll throw something together and post it on my campaign wiki.
