This link doesn't work anymore.

The link I gave works, while the one you gave doesn't! Mine takes you to Heromachine's home page - with links to download the classic product, to try the live demo at UGO.com, or to buy the full version of the current product. Heromachine is good enough to give folks the full range of choices, IMHO :)

Just do what I do - bug a friend of yours who's a good artist to draw a picture of your character until he gives in. :)

I should really convince him to put up a website of the stuff he sketches when we play - for the last campaign we played, he probably has a good dozen drawings of the various PCs and NPCs, and to wrap it up, he did a "group shot" with about 20 people in it - the PCs, their friends, family, mentors, cohorts, etc.

And for the campaign we're playing in right now, he's doing oil paintings. :D (well, he's really adding to his fantasy portfolio, is what he's doing, but I'm still the only player I know with a 2.5'x1.5' oil of his 2nd level character - so far, anyway, since he hasn't gotten to the other PCs yet)

Larry Elmore sells a CD of line art portraits and such on his website. When you purchase it, you're getting a license to use the artwork not only for anything personal, but also for publication, if I understand correctly. You can even color it. Check it out...
