Lord Mhoram
Hero
A lot of us are making new characters for new 4E games. I thought it would be fun (as people like to talk about what they are creating) to post a short little paragraph or two, in character voice answering a question or two about their past, their goals or why they adventure. If nothing else it could be good for using someone else's ideas for NPCs.
For the three I am posting the question is "Why do you do this, why adventure?"
For reference Miriam is a half elf Ranger, MC to Fighter, with Skill focus Thievery and a Rogue power for her racial power.
Draz is a human Wizard.
Arjhan is a Dragonborn Paladin MC to Cleric.
Miriam Eledrial:
Why do I do this? Ha. The better question would be why don't you? This is fun. Putting life and future on the line. Thrill of the fight, of the hunt. It makes you feel alive. That and being able to stand up on my own. Are your parents famous? No. Well that would explain the confused look on your face when I said “Stand up on my own”. Dad was a diplomat, talk first. Keep things calm, come to an understanding. Mom.. Haven't you heard of the great poet Gara Eledrial? Yeah. That one. Common enough Elvish name Eledrial. Too bad I'm the child of the famous one. You don't know what it is like always being referred to as “Her girl” or “his child”. It's like I don't have an identity of my own... or I didn't until I reached the age of ascension and could make my own choices. So I ended up here. Doing things I enjoy, things that really make life worthwhile – putting myself to the test in everything that I do... because if I fail that test I die. Really makes you feel alive when each decision could be your last.
“Draz” Enrikson:
Why do I do this – let's move on to a different question.
Why Draz then? It is a diminuzation of my actual name which has thirteen syllables and well nigh impossible to pronounce. My father was strong in the mystics arts, and decided to make it difficult for anyone to use my true name against me. Foresighted of him. Just like the phylactery he created, so that when the hardy group of adventurers came to investigate the evil warlock, he could escape and finish the ritual to make himself a lich. He was almost killed but his foresightedness gave him an out.
I was 13. The group that almost killed my father (oh that they could have) took me in and raised me. The mage in the group gave me instruction. It was nice to have instruction in the arts that didn't include killing rats and cats, or drawing on the life force of those being father had trapped. Just like he drew on mine in that fight. The power surge that finished the ritual and transported him out almost killed me.
That is the reason I do this. I know, sometime, somewhere, the two of us will meet. I intend to be ready. He almost killed me once. I will not let it happen again. When next we meet, the creature that had once been my father will die.
Arjhan
I adventure and put myself into combat situations for myself, my family and my lord Bahamut. For my lord, I spread his teachings and act as a living example of his strength and honor. For myself, I gain honor, and stay true to my oath as a Paladin. For my family I seek to end the curse. Hundreds of years ago, there was a curse laid on my family... the details of how it happened have been lost, but the effect of the curse is the same. Every generation one of the family will die in battle. His sacrifice keeps the curse from affecting the rest of his generation. And should the battle master live to the age of 75, and not die in battle, the curse is broken. I have chosen to take upon myself this burden. The rest of my family that has done so were soldiers. I am the first to follow the path of glory and light that is what a Paladin is. With the support of my lord, I hope to break this curse and set my family free.
