That's a snapping turtle, unless I'm mistaken. How'z about...

Footmauler.

Toe-slicer.

Hand-cruncher.

Sounds a bit like Warhammer orc names, but it seems appropriate...
That is an alligator snapping turtle...

What is thename of that gaint flying turtle of those B-monster movies....

Not if Clay got the scientific name right, it isn't.
True, but from looks, beak, ridges, and shape of shell...looks more aligator than common but it is young so would not surprise me if I am more than wrong. :D

Yeah, my first thought on seeing the picture was that it was an alligator, but since he didn't call it Macroclemys temminckii I figured I just couldn't tell them apart very well. Maybe you're right, and Clay can confirm. I'm interested in anyone who keeps a pet alligator snapper.

I made my taxonomical observation after examining the shape and number of scutes(axillary scutes particularly), the plastron shape and the shape of the whole carapace (even in the tiny ones).

I have a background in the field and a good series of books to work from.

That being said.... I have done it wrong before. :heh:

Time will tell. Betcha a d6 at GenCon 2010 I am right. :)
