Chick strikes again! What do I do now?

The funny thing is that Dark Dungeons is now actually a game, with a magic system based on praying to traditional Christian saints, no less. It's in its second edition, and is available as a free .pdf somewhere on the 'net. But don't bother, because the system really sucks (by which I mean does not accomplish stated goals).

Heh. And I don't get how Chick logicized calling Dark Dungeons D&D. Dark And Dungeons? What? :D

And, as a Christian, let me distance myself from him as far as I possibly can.
Just don't distance yourself from God to spite Jacky boy. ;)

Killing, the worship of and allegiance to other gods, thievery, and sorcery are the suggested means to success in D&D and they are condemned in the Bible.

If making note of that draws ridicule, so be it. As a Christian I've had to ask myself many times what benefit my hobby offers my relationship with God.

Even non-Christians have many things that are too taboo or distasteful to engage their minds in while playing a game. Look at the reception to the BOEF. What basis of morality do we use to judge pornography as inappropriate subject matter for gaming but embrace having characters who worship false gods or steal?

What if The Book of Erotic Fantasy WAS Dungeons & Dragons? What if there was no other role-playing game and the BOEF was the only thing available. What if playing D&D meant rolling up spellcasting courtesans and gigolos and what have you. How many of us would still be gamers?

To a Christian, having sex outside of marriage or using sex to manipulate others is certainly no worse than practicing magic or praying to false gods, so maybe the BOEF *is* D&D and we just don't like to admit it. Maybe there's a little ArthurQ in all of us....

Umm...you are aware that D&D is just a game, right? ;)

We all know that all this D&D stuff is just make-believe, except for a few crazies. It's people like Jack Chick who seem to percieve every gamer as being obsessed, completely believing every aspect of the game.

Kai Lord, trust me when I say that if you have enough faith to believe in god, he's willing to forgive a few in-character prayers. He is omniscient, isn't he? ;)

A game is a game is a game. And that's all it will ever be.

Now lets go have some good old fashioned fun by duct taping JC's mouth shut and leave him in the middle of the Mojave Desert with a whole lotta bottled water, granola bars, and nothing but gaming books to read. He'll change sides after that. One day he'll come strolling into GenCon wearing a "I LOVE DICE!" T-shirt.

Anyway, in regards to D&D, I always get a kick about how Jack Chick claims to have written some of it back in the early days before he found his version of God. But he found God in the late 40s after he served in World War Two (he's kind of old). Gary Gygax would have been about 10 years old. I mean, its incredibly false. This isn't even a question of perspectives, the dates don't match up.

Weird.
Either that or Gygax owes him a butt load of royalties! :D

Chick tracts make excellent bookmarks for your RPG materials. I am considering making a DM screen out of them - placed on the players' side of course.

It really gets to me that the girl in Dark Dungeons gets to learn real magic after obtaining only 8th level. I got a dwarven fighter up to 18th level once, and I NEVER got initiated into any secret society! I must be doing something wrong!
