Chill Touch... multiple charges?

I see that Chill Touch allows you to affect several creatures, but it has a duration of instantaenous. Does that mean that a 10th level caster could affect up to 10 creatures at the same round he casts the spell (if he could reach and touch them all, that is). Or does that mean that a 10th level caster could affect 10 creatures over as many rounds as it takes, and if so when would the spell wear off? Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys!

Yes, and this causes a lot of debate. I'll just provide my interpretation.

No. I doubt anyone would disagree with this answer, if not per RAW then sanity-wise. ;)

Yes, and the spell would wear off after 10 creatures were affected.

In my opinion, it's best to run this spell as "Duration: Instantaneous; Until Discharged (see text)" where the effects are instantaneous, but the spell remains 'usable' until fully discharged. The caster gets 1 touch attack per round (some argue here that iterative attacks are possible).

It would be the same as casting cure light wounds and holding the charge. The duration is instantaneous, yet you can hold the charge indefinitely or until you discharge it or cast another spell which dismisses held charges.

Since it's not a single charge but 1/level then the charges remain until they have been expended or another spell has been cast. Same with other touch spells one attack can be made the round you cast the spell or your normal number of attacks in following rounds.

I disagree with I2K, and can't imagine anyone allowing you to touch 10 targets the round you cast the spell. Willing targets can huddle together and allow themselves to be touched as with spells like water walk, but not 10 separate attack rolls.

How does that disagree with me?

I'm guessing it's because you wrote

In response to Arravis'

Your "this answer" is ambiguously placed and if one reads quickly, one might think it refers to Arravis' phrase rather than to your own "No."

Use of "this/that" tends to reduce clarity, as I'm telling my students all the time.
