Chimeras: How do you make them cool?

All those years of being brainwashed by Joe Camel have taught me a little bit about what cool is.

I've always had a soft-spot for the gorgomera. Replace the goat head with a gorgon head (metal bull, petrifying gas variety), unleash on PCs and watch the fun.

I believe there's been a mantimera as well (chimera+manticore tail).

When did chimeras get wings? The original chimera could not fly (hence the use of Pegasus in defeating it). Any pre-D&D references to winged chimeras?

I like the abberation variety (was it a creature from Call of Cthullu or possibly Palladium?)

Chimera are extradimensional beings whose true form is a viscous blob, Chimera feed by absorbing other creatures whoses forms then begin to manifest within the chimera (ie the classic chimera ate a goat, a lion and a serpent/dragon). However as it absorbs more and more creatures it becomes increasing unstable until it implodes in a bubble of improbability.

It allows Chimera of any shape and form (including humanoid ones) and gives a cool 'grapple/swallow/absorb' attack
