"Chinese" character... from what region?

Thanee

First Post
What Forgotten Realms region would be best suited as a character's home region, if the character was similar to a real world chinese?

Havn't really found anything suitable in Unapproachable East so far.

Any idea?

Well, originally the old AD&D Oriental Adventure's setting KARA-TUR was the official "oriental realms" of FR. Then WOTC freaked it all up and made ROKUGAN it. Which is a TOTAL joke beyond all jokes. Just another case of WOTC not having a friggan clue.

Anyways. IIRC the name ofthe region that was "China" was called SHOU LUNG. Here's a few links I found. I would check around, I bet you can get a PDF of the box set for like 5.00 (if not for free) online here somehwere.

YUP! Here's the box set for 5.00 http://www.svgames.com/tsr1032esd.html

Good luck.

Um if I'm not wrong, Kara-Tur is still the "official" oriental region of the Forgotten Realms, just like Zakhara is the "official" arabian region.

WotC made Rokugan the official setting of Oriental Adventures, but that doesn't mean that Rokugan suddenly appeared in Faerun. Given that the standard setting for the core rules is actually Greyhawk, it seems more likely that it appeared somewhere on Oerth.

And yup, as dargoth3 suggested, Shou Expatriate is probably your best bet for a chinese-like character in FR. Go with the Shou.

It's so easy to bash, would you prefer that WotC not bought/revamped D&D and keep the klunker that was 2ed? Judge after you found a successful game company and save another company's products from fading away.

And Shou is "China", and Wu is "Japan" from what I infer in FR. Shou expat would be a good region to explain why you're abroad.

:)

The Player's Guide to Faerun has the Shou Expatriate region for characters who come from the far east. I suggest you take a look at that book if you want more information.

Shou Expatriat if you want to do a more civilized chinese, The Hordelands (Tuigan) if you want to do a more badlands raider or mongolian character.

If I remembered how things were in Kara-Tar it was...

Shou Lung = A politically stable China
Tu Lung = A politically unstable China
Hordelands = Mongolia
Tabot = Tibet & Nepal
Koryo = Korea
Wa = Strictly enforced Japan
Kozakura = War-torn Japan
Northern Wastes = Siberia
Jungle Kingdoms = Thailand, Cambodia & Burma
Island Kingdoms = Philiphines & Indonesia

Well, Zakhara is one of the arabian regions. Calimshan seems to be mythical Arabia, Thay seems to be a more historical Arabia (plus mages), and Mulhorand is Ancient Egypt.
