The Arcane Archer, while I like the conceptual idea, has too many design flaws. It just doesn't work well.

The Shadowdancer is pretty cool, it could only need a more clarified HiPS description. ;)

I like Assassin NPCs for the threat level, and Eldritch Knight for the surprise factor. My PCs are about to mix it up with one (though they don't know it) and I don't think they'll expect magic mojo from the heavily-armored Dwarf guy. :)

I don't know if it's any good, but the Thaumaturgist PrC seems like it has oodles of potential for an NPC villain. It fills the niche of demon-summoning-bad-guy quite nicely.

I guess a corollary question would be if there were Prestige Classes that could be tweaked to make them more interesting, and which classes would make good candidates for that sort of tweaking.

Duelists are popular? That was a surprise. It is by far the weakest of the DMG prestige classes. I guess some people really really really like the style and don't care about the mechanics.

Wot! All the D&D bashers are wrong that all D&D players are just munchkinny minmaxers? Say it isn't so! ;)

The synergy classes (Mystic Theruge and Eldritch Knight.) While they do their job, they are sort of boring.

I like the Arcane Archer, but there is one thing about it that has always bothered me.

Why should the Arcane Archer be able to keep increasing the power/enchantment bestowed on his arrows without continuing to get further understanding in the ways of magic (i.e. increasing casting ability?)

He IS getting further understanding in the ways of magic. Just that the particular understanding that he gets has nothing to do with spells.

You might as well ask why a wizard continues to get more spells when it's clear that their understanding of magic obviously isn't getting any deeper as evidenced by their lack of enchantment bonuses on their arrows.
