Choosing Magic Items: Daily Powers?

How often do you choose items for their daily powers?

  • Often/always. I regularly pick items for their daily powers.

  • Sometimes. Daily, encounter, at-will, or property, doesn't much matter to me.

It would have to be really cool, or really strong. Otherwise, no, I don't ever factor an item's daily power into my buying decisions.

I try to have 1 or 2 daily powers in my magic items, so that I can actually use that resource, and the rest of them I'd rather have encounter powers, or properties. Being able to use 2 of 6ish powers really isn't that useful, unless they're situational(in which case they'd better be on non-slotted items.

If I am in a party, I always vote for doing yet another encounter, as long as there are a few healing surges left. So I am always interested in daily item powers, since we regularly try to get three or four milestones. (We do not take an extended rest automatically between gaming sessions, just a short rest often.)

For example, our current party has fought its way past ambushes and encounters on a long road to the mountain fastness of a kobold dragon-worshipping cult. Now we are trying to hunt down the wyrmling blue dragon, after having made it retreat once already. Nor shall we rest until we slay it or die trying. (Crosses fingers.)

Mind you, we have almost no daily magic items at this point, this dragon's hoard being our hope for a well-deserved reward.

I never pick daily power items for offensive purposes, although I do have several for saving my bacon.

My items...
1. Cunning Mordenkrad (Property is awesome)
2. Dwarven Braidmail (Property is barely useful, Daily is awesome)
3. Ring of Feather Fall (Sorta handy if you take point, Daily is a group saver)
4. Cloak of Walking Wounded (Best Property in the game for saving bacon, IMHO)
5. Helm of Opportunity (I could take it or leave it but its a Property)
6. Iron Armbands of Power (Who DOESN'T take this?)
7. Parry Gauntlets (Property is awesome for soaking hits while the party kills everyone)

Of my 7 items only 1 was chosen for its Daily Power.
