D&D 5E Chris Cocks CEO of WotC talks at IntelGameDev about WotC and magic and D&D

I crit!
I couldn't find a youtube version of this.

The D&D stuff is mixed in with the magic and other things. The big thing to me is that D&D isn't treated as an afterthought in his speech. That was refreshing. There is news bits in there.

He said playtesting was 23 montsh, was 5e in the public play test for 23 months? Or does that number include private playtesting?

He says 9.5 million people play D&D.

A lot of focus on digital.

He says 9.5 million people play D&D.

Gary Gygax, Roleplaying Mastery (1987)

"Knowledgeable estimates place the number of avid players of
role games in the neighborhood of three and one-half million in
North America, five million worldwide. That is a lot of players,
and these are enthusiasts. These figures do not include occasional
participants in role-playing games. The number of persons who
have played at least once is certainly twice as large as the number
of enthusiasts."

*edit* Sorry, it's the first thing that came up on Google when I was trying to corroborate the quote.

The quote is fine, but the link seems to violate copyrights. Not cool.

As I recall, that 9.5 million number is close to double the numbers thrown around during 3e. Wow.
