Christmas Gift Giving and Your Campaign Group

Lets see... Last year I got the guys in my group each

1. A folder/binder - To keep their characters in.
2. A pad of paper
3. And a ziploc baggie of pencils, erasers, paper clips, etc.

I'm not sure what I'm going to get them this year...

Since most of us are poor I just cook a big turkey dinner for the group. We then sit around and BS. I'm not much of a holidays person so that's the best it gets.

I havea small group so I'll probably get something for each of them. I've found that people who want to buy giufts do, and people who don't, well don't. Like with all things Christmas, its about the giving not the getting so I don't expect any presents from my players.

Ummmm... Crothian... is your avatar a melting Boba Fett?

I'm guessing not.... but that's all I can see.

Our gaming group consists of three couples and we draw names for a gift with a $ limit. I think we did a $50 limit, but then again we are pretty close so the amount should vary group to group. The only stipulation was that if you drew your significant other, you had to trade since you would be giving them a gift anyway. And then I make a lot of food for the game closest to Christmas and we have a little party at the dinner break.

Outside the game? We give as the mood strikes us. Basically, if someone sees something that is "typical" of someone, then it'll probably wind up as a gift. Otherwise, nah.

Gifts as gamers? In my 20+ years of gaming, mostly GMing, I'd have loved to receive any sort of gift from any player or group. I think my wife is the only person who's given me anything gaming-related, ever.

You could give them each some cash with RPGNow's Deposit system. They could then pick out what PDFs they want.

It allows people to buy inexpensive products without needing to meet the minimum order amount.

I'm not looking for *what* to get my fellow players... but, looking to find out what everyone else does, so far as gift giving goes...

However, if we exchange names--which I think is a really cool idea--I will certainly keep this in mind!

small gifts

We usually exchange small gifts. Not everyone does, but some of us do.

I thnik the best thing I ever got was 2 painted minis by a friend who can really paint. I'm okay at it, but it is nice to have other good work. It was in Amrch, but a belated Christmas is still good.

This year, I've got a couple of small things selected, and I may paint some minis fro people in the group.

Many years back, my DM made little tokens for each player, from deer antler.

The token was disc shaped and he had carved in our characters initials and some symbols representing our character. We all keep them in our dice bags. They look cool and they come in handy for marking positions in encounters.

As an FYI, he runs a deer farm. Antlers come easy and there's no harm to the deer.

Later on, as I built my own gaming group (I moved 1500 miles away), I made wooden tokens for all my players, based on that concept.

For one player's birthday, we all dressed up as zombies (except him) and had a Zombie birthday. He loves zombie stuff, so we surprised him. He got a bunch of $10 zombie movies (like the original george romero "of the dead" movies. We had a good time.
