Chuck

I agree about the comparison to Jake 2.0 -- it was inevitable.

Despite that fact, I think it's distinct enough to stand on it's own. Chuck is definitely not going to be a secret agent any time soon. He's more like the random plot generator than an actual capable person. (Though I loved that his job saved the day with a computer virus.)

Yvonne Strzechowski is a very beautiful woman. I'm not sure I buy her as a super-agent, but she did a solid job of selling it in the pilot. We'll see if they can keep that up.

On the other hand, Jayne -- er, Adam Baldwin -- was a really great casting choice. His line about killing them and going for pancakes was downright stupid, but the ACTOR managed to sell it. Not to mention that I'm amused to see him apparently working at "Buy More" at the end.

--------------------------

The one thing I'm not clear on from the pilot... Is this computer supposed to be some kind of AI? Because they made it sound like the program itself was interpolating attacks and upcoming threats from all the data.

Only one thing bugged me and I'm doing my best to ignore it... Chuck was staring at complex images with embedded information for HOURS. And the super-spy supposedly uploaded the file in a few seconds from his remote PDA? Pssh... that's less believable than the rest of the episode combined. :)
Just as Journeyman I liked a lot better when it was called Quantum Leap, I didn't like Jake 2. and CHuck is following in the same route. Nothing fresh, the bestfriend was corny and the d and d references could have used some updating.

Plus how his powers work doesn't make sense which wont help to keep viewers. He has all this knowledge but how does he "see the future". Why did the one agent get a job at the store other than for he obvious comic relief.

Pretty entertaining. I watched it right after I watched Reaper and the similarities are striking in tone. I think I'll enjoy Reaper a bit more in the long run, but this has potential.

I thought it was cute, but nothing special. The computer stuff bothered me, because while I am more knowledgeable than the average person, I don't think the information is that hard to find.

It was definitely over-hyped in the media.

I love Hollywood's notion of what constitutes a person of "plain" or "nerdy" appearance. With his face and body, Zachary Levi could be a GQ model, but we're supposed to look at Chuck and see a loser and a dateless wonder because......he has a bad hairdo?

That's as close as you're going to get for a "leading man" role on a network sitcom/action/comedy/whatever.

I didn't see the similarity to Jake 2.0, and even now that I read it in this thread I'd say it is tenous at best. I think Jake 2.0 has more in common with the Bionic(Wo)Man than Chuck, (and they even had an episode with Lee Majors). Sure, he was normal before the accident and is a geek, but that's about it.

I enjoyed it and will try to watch it again.

Since the topic of pretty actors came up here, I'll point out that the original 2007 Bionic Woman pilot (and show) had a not-skeletal actor in the role of Jamie's sister. The actress was a bit rounded, similar to Kelli Osborne, say. The character (and actor?) was also deaf, which added a bit of interest.

But, y'know, you couldn't clearly see the outlines of all of her ribs if she raised her arms, so that'll never do. They reshot all the sister scenes with a new, skinny actress. *barf*

Um, to keep really close tabs on Chuck, probably the single most valuable human alive, perhaps?
That's where the story got really stupid for me. All the tools at the gov't disposal and the best course of action is to take a job at Best Buy. Perhaps in future episodes it will be revealed exactly what his power is or what makes him able to see the future.
