City based adventure setting?

Wow, PC. I've been playing in a Warhammer FRP campaign for the past five years based in Marienburg. Ragan had put a lot of notes out for the mailing lists after the original WFRP bit the dust. Our GM rolled with it, added some new material, and off we went. Now I must re-read to look for similarities!!

Anyways, to the question at hand: Sounds like a good campaign. Marienburg may very well be your bet, as the campaign I've played in was mostly thieves, along with a priest of a roguish god. Works fine.

Windhaven looks like a setting I'll be interested in as well, although you've got a month or so before it hits shelves, right?

Yes, sadly. Everything good comes out either two months from now, or 10 months. Arrrrggghhhh.

I've seen advertisements for Bluffside - but as usual, I want it *now* and it's coming out til *later*.

Bluffside should be out with the week and Thunderhead is taking pre-orders now!

Crimson,

Why the worry about whether or not a sourcebook has come out or not? All you need is a map and some NPC sketches. Outline 2-3 potential plots and the rest will fall into place as you need it. Right now there should be more than enough material out there to get you started. BTW, Freeport is a great suggestion. Between the modules and the online resources, who needs a sourcebook?

Sucks to hear Canting Crew has been pushed back to November. Ack!

Another thought: You could try the Iron Kingdoms setting from Privateer. My roommate is running a sporadic thieving game in that setting. The uber sourcebook (as with everything else) will be out soon, but the WitchFire trilogy apparently had enough details to get him started.

I'd give more details, but as a player I haven't looked at book one of the series. I will say though, we've had fun.

Yes, I could do that - I have done that. I just would love to have any of the forthcoming books mentioned above to draw upon, as I create the 'world'.

Having worked on Bluffside, I can tell you that designing a city from the ground up is an immense task for anyone to undertake. Bluffside will have everything you need, and stuff you don't. It should hit the stores in the first week of March. Pre-order now from www.thunderheadgames.com and get Interludes, and an extra city map.

Bluffside, or rather Sordadon (the floating city beneath Bluffside) is a haven for scum and villainy, so it should be perfect for what you're wanting to do.

My buddy ran a nobles campaign in Waterdeep... it was great. He had a huge friggin' map of Waterdeep that completely covered one whole wall in his game room.

We were all noblemen living in the city. He gave extra points for roleplaying well and everyone had some kind of nobleman's hindrance.. my priest was very fastidious so he had to be clean all of the time and freaked out if he had to touch a commoner.. always had extra clothes and spent his money on magical "wet wipes" to keep clean.

Another guy wet the bed... we didn't tell each other what our hindrances were, we just roleplayed them and tried to figure them out.

In that case you should try to get a hold of the Thieves of Lankhmar sourcebook. It includes a detailed map of the thieves guild, plot suggestions,
2 adventures, enemies aimed at thief characters, and just general info on running a thief based campaign.

Freeport soon

Lawful society you say?

Darn.

As far as Freeport goes - I've heard some good things about it - but the guide isn't out yet..! Bah-humbug!

Freeport: The City of Adventure is achingly close to release. It's been at the printer for several weeks, we've approved bluelines, and now it's a just a matter of printing, binding, and shipment. Unless disaster strikes, it'll be out at the end of March.
