The party I'm in is converting the module to 3.5 and have played 7 sessions so far. Are into some drow cave city ... noone died so far, though one of the clerics came very near to it twice (once a Con-drain to 1 point left, once a neardrowing in an acid-pool.

The rest of the characters haven't even been near death.

Cast:
Brb1/Clr10 (the one that almost died)
Sor1/Clr7/Dragon Disciple 3
Sor5/Elemental Savant (Earth) 6
Drd5/Animal Lord (Bear) 6
Rog7/Dungeon Delver 4

Wiz11 (stand-inn player/character)

We were damaged quite a lot by the bebiliths the first time, got away, went back and dismissed one, killed the other.

Had a big battle on a web with an enormous spider, but our sorcerer tends to cast fly and improved invisibility on two or three of the main melee characters ... that battle continued in some kind of market-cave, but due to the extreme melee power of the bearlord and the brb/cleric who were both improved invis, the drow and others went down like puppets.

Also had a big battle in the middle of the night once, but the bearlord and his companion grappled the casters the first round ... they always do that :D

Yep so far I think this module sucks arse and Mr Wyatt is a talentless gimp but that just my 2copper.

Wow-Thanks for all of the input. I have another question, how did or are the various groups of players responding to the high mortality rates? Mine aren't that upset as a whole yet, but there is some grumbling among a couple of players. Of course, I have 8 players. I tried to warn them beforehand, but they wanted to play this soooooo...

Our group played it a few month okay.

I believe our only losses were the Paladin and my Druid/Shifter (both were "true resourceted" and "reincarnated". At least one, if not two of our losses were to an extremely bad rolles saving throw on our best save. (Fortitude in both cases))

The rest of the module wasn`t that hard, I think. But I must admit, our group was probably a few levels higher than expected for that module...

My guys weren't all that upset. They realized they made some monumentally stupid mistakes, and they ended up paying the price. Additionally, they were playing these characters for a long time and were looking to change things around a little. Now we're going to wait for 3.5, but the new characters they're thinking of playing consist of classes and/or races they haven't played before.

Maybe next time they'll believe me when I warn them that if they play stupidly they'll get killed in a hurry.

Levels, tactics, and diplomacy matters quite a bit.

I like the module quite a bit. We shall see how the group I gming it for likes it.

Note: The module is only hack and slash if your GM runs it that way/your players play it that way... it can very easily be played as a mystery/negotiations module. Of course, if you have Paladins or other Lawful Good types in your party, it becomes hack and slash very fast.

Yes, I agree with Endur, the module is only hack n' slash if run that way. I connected mine to some plot threads from the surface, along with a few other plot threads to weave it into an existing campaign, so there is a lot going on that isn't hack and slash. There is political intrigue, backstabbing, etc. A good, wholesome campaign. It is actually the two main combat hacks who are complaining about the death rate.
