Clarification of spells with a casting time of 1 round

It takes a full round action to cast. But are you actually casting right up until your next turn or is it just that the spell doesn't take effect until just before your next turn.

I always thought it was that you were casting until your next turn but now I'm not so sure.

IIRC, you ARE casting until your next initiative count, because you can be interrupted at any moment until then.

Edit:
When you begin a spell that takes 1 round or longer to cast, you must continue the concentration from the current round to just before your turn in the next round (at least). If you lose concentration before the casting is complete, you lose the spell.

Ok, so I'm not crazy, but where is that quote from, is the the PHB or the SRD? I didn't find that text when I was trying to make sure I had it correct.

It's in the SRD => Magic Overview => SPELL DESCRIPTIONS :

CASTING TIME
Most spells have a casting time of 1 standard action. Others take 1 round or more, while a few require only a free action.

A spell that takes 1 round to cast is a full-round action. It comes into effect just before the beginning of your turn in the round after you began casting the spell. You then act normally after the spell is completed.

But to add to the confusion check out the 3.5 PHB pg 143. There are 2 different things that in opposition to each other. See the casting a spell (specifically the same quaote as from the SRD) and then check out the wording under casting a metamagic spell.

Basically it differentiates full round actions and 1 round casting times. A full round action (like a spontaneous caster using a metamagic spell) is a full round action that goes into effect in the same round as the casting starts - specifically the caster does not need to continue his casting until his next action. While a 1 round casting time requires the continuation until the caster's next action.

Putting the two together, a 1 round casting time is a full round action that continues until the caster's next action while a full round casting is one that is completed within the same round as the casting is started, but the caster is limited by what other actions he can take since he is using a full round action (for one he can only take a 5' step and can't do a normal move and cast).
