Clarification on using items in combat

I have a question on what provokes AoO in combat situations. This does not include being able to take a 5' step this means you are surrounded, up against a wall, etc.

What I mean is it states that wands and such need not get a AoO but drinking a potion does. If using a scroll in combat is just like the casting of a spell you get to make a concentration check to see if you get spell off and not provoke a AoO. Does this also apply to drinking a potion, using a spell-like ability, etc.?

I guess the question is can you use the skill concentration on any of the above and not just spell casting? If not is there a feat that allows it? Do you think a house rule is a good idea to use concentration skill for just other than spell casting?

I noticed in the skill explanation it states casting a spell, diricting a spell, using a spell-like abilty,..but is drinking a potion a spell-like abilty? I think that by the description that it is as I said above, but just getting a clarifaction. Thanks.

Using a potion or oil provokes attacks of opportunity. A successful attack (including grappling attacks) against the character forces a Concentration check (as for casting a spell). If the character fails this check, she cannot drink the potion. An enemy may direct an attack of opportunity against the potion or oil container rather than against the character. A successful attack of this sort can destroy the container.

So, yes, Concentration is the skill to use to see if you can pull off potion-chuggin' in the middle of combat.
