Class balance changes in revised PHB?

I Hope they live the Wizard alone. I hug my little wizard, and am happy with the Wizard.

The bard needs some fixing, I think. The Monk hopefully will get Something. The sorceror will likely (or hopefully), the Ranger no doubt will, and the Cleric will probably get something yanked. Either buffing spells reduced, or a watering down to make them SO bad ass.

They'll likely erratta some spells (Shield, Haste... :( ), and put the version 12 of Polymorph in there.

I, for one, am very surious to see what happens.

I just hope they make some download or something, so that I won't have to buy all the freakin' books again! :/

That won't happen, they want you to buy all the books again.

When you look at a class list and see blank entries across 19 of the levels, it can make you feel like you'll get bored playing that thing.

In my opinion, you are overlooking the fact that clerics and sorcerers (the two classes this could apply to) get one of the coolest abilities ever: the ability to cast ever higher levels of spells. This alone makes sorcerers quite fascinating to play. However, one thing they could use would be a better utilization of metamagic abilities. They get so few, it would indeed be nice to at least see they don't need to use a whole full-round action just to use them!

I am hoping more for serious revisions in the layout. Since all the books are out now, I'm also hoping some things get shuffled betwixt PHB and DMG. The magic items section of the DMG is horrible. It needs much better organization and another table: wonderous items alphabetically.

The actual rules changes I would make would be minor. I'm just glad I heard about the revision before I bought a second PHB. With 3 gamers in the family one book is not enough!

PS

One thing I'd like to see them do is help Multi-classing and Spellcasters. Spellcasters get screwed by multi-classing. Something to give them an effective Caster level of their Character Level, or a feat that gives +1 caster level for spells, or SOMETHING.

Yup, the SRD will be changed to reflect the alterations.

And they won't change things TOO drastically, because that would invalidate things written up to this point (which they said they wouldn't do, or would at least try to avoid).

Things I think are likely:

*altering how Favored Enemy works to make it more worthwhile, and perhaps giving the Ranger a few minor tricks.

*Bards will probably have 6 SP/level

*MANY spells will be adjusted...see stuff from d20 Modern to see what's likely to change, at least at lower levels. Expect changes to Harm and

*Monks may have a switch-out basis for feats...with the described new feats, I think it'd be a perfect opportunity.

*Skill Focus = +3 (or maybe even +4)

*Lots of the more popular splat feats will be included...think of what's used in Deities and Demigods, or in the Epic Level Handbook.

*Reorganizing the DMG

*Reorganizing the MM layout (look at MM2 to see what it'll be similar to, most likely)

*Adding colored bars to the charts to make them readable.

Things that I think are possible, but I wouldn't count on:

*Sorcerer having a new spell list. It's largely pointless...when you can pick and choose spells anyway.

*Sorcerer class skills getting adjusted. Sorcerers aren't supposed to be greatly skilled...though I would like to see some Cha based skills for them, myself.

*Wizards and Clerics being "nerfed" (spells will be changed, but this probably won't greatly affect their power)

*Giving the sorcerer more "presents" at level up...it's not really nessecary, and would add too many changes, I think.

Things that I'm nearly positive WON'T happen:

*VP/WP implementation
*Defense Bonus implementation
*Any variant class already published being used
*Clerics being lesser powered

This is mostly IMHO, but, hey, I called how Savage Species was going to do level-one monsters, so maybe I have a little spy in me brain. ;)

Speculation is. Waiting is. Only their dry-cleaners know for sure...

I doubt you'll see much real "pushing the envelope". Pushing the envelope is for new games, and for major revisions (like 2e to 3e). They most certainly do not want to alienate players who already like what's there. So, the envelope will remain intact.

I'm just postin gspeculation, not what I want (although some of this I want).

I speculate some tweaking of the bard (more skill points? more spells? dunno)

I speculate a less front-end-heavy ranger, or a ranger with more options.

And that's honestly all I expect in the class tweaking.
