Oh, phooey. When I saw the name of this thread, I immediately jumped to the conclusion that you had maybe sculpted some dice rollers in the shape of a castle, like those leaf monster rollers you did a while back. Oh, well - enjoy your visit there, and, y'know, think about doing a castle dice roller. It would rock, and I rather suspect the coolness would be too much for me to pass up.

go to yorkshire, and while there go to fountains abbey or one of the other old chistercian abbies in the area... they are AMAZING.

Not forgetting the Royal Armouries in Leeds.

North Wales is good for castles. One of the best ones being Beaumaris Castle IMHO.

I'll second Bagpuss' remarks about the castles of North Wales. They are some of the finest High Mediaeval castles anywhere in Europe. They also illustrate the evolution of ideas, and the modification of design you need to do according to the terrain. My favourite is still Conwy Castle , but I'm biased (I visited there a great many times as a child!).

Getting around Wales by public transport can be a bit tricky, mind. But where there's a will...
