Cleave and Charge Question

Cool, but what about Ride-by attack? Does the charge end after you attack, or after your last move?

Ride-by attack and charge can't be done at the same time. The one is a move action that is split and a standard action, the other is a full-round action where you move up to twice your speed, and then attack.

I beg to differ.

RIDE-BY ATTACK [GENERAL]
Prerequisites: Ride 1 rank, Mounted Combat.
Benefit: When you are mounted and use the charge action, you may move and attack as if with a standard charge and then move again (continuing the straight line of the charge). Your total movement for the round can’t exceed double your mounted speed. You and your mount do not provoke an attack of opportunity from the opponent that you attack.

Actually, given this text in the description of a charge:

"Even if you have extra attacks, such as from having a high enough base attack bonus or from using multiple weapons, you only get to make one attack during a charge."

It would seem you cannot cleave during a charge.

No, actually. Their examples are having a high base attack or using multiple weapons, which are quite different from the extra attack(s) from Cleave. If Cleave weren't allowed on a charge, it would be specifically noted, as it is not based on the same mechanic as iterative attacks (for example, Whirlwind Attack specifically does not allow extra attacks from Cleave- whereas the Charge action does not).

Again, once you've made your single melee attack, you're no longer charging. The Cleave attack, which occurs after the initial attack, is therefore not made 'during a charge' at all.

-Hyp.

A charge is a full round action (unless you are restricted from taking full round actions). Therefore you are charging for the whole of your turn.

Cleave is an immediate attack. The inital charge attack was during the charge, therefore so was the cleave attack - it is immediate.

Either you cannot cleave on a charge, or you are still charging when you cleave.

Cleave gives you "an immediate, extra melee attack"

Charge says "Even if you have extra attacks, such as from having a high enough base attack bonus or from using multiple weapons, you only get to make one attack during a charge"

and whirlwind attack says "When you use the Whirlwind Attack feat, you also forfeit any bonus or extra attacks granted by other feats, spells, or abilities."

Please note that if a list starts with the phrase "such as...", then it is defining itself as not being exclusive. There are other things out there that are not on the list.
