Cleric PrC FRCS: Lathander

Gaiden

Explorer
I am trying to devise a cleric PrC for clerics of Lathandar. In Faiths and Pantheons for FR they did not list one.

Using Radiant Servant of Pelor as a guide I came up with the following and wanted some feed back on how to tweak if for balance (keeping in mind that this is for Faerun :)).

BAB - 3/4
Good Saves - F/W
SP/Level - 2

Skills: same as cleric

Spells" +1/level

HP d8

Special:

Level 1 - Detect Undead - usable like paladin but with undead, Radiance (doubles radius of any spell with light descriptor), Turn Undead

Level 2 - Divine Health, Smite Undead

Level 3 - Divine Grace

Level 4 - Extra Greater Turning (as RSoP)

Level 5 - bonus domain

Level 6 - Bonus Feat (chosen from any one of the turning feats, extra turning, leadership, or any one of the divine feats)

Level 7 - consecrated presence - as Sacred Exorcist

Level 8 - Positive Energy Blast (as RSoP)

Level 9 - bonus feat (as above)

Level 10 - additional domain

I always make things a bit on the powerful side - so I presume I will get some replies back telling me to drop a thing here or there - which is fine.

Lathander's domains are strength, sun, renewal, nobility, good, and protection - so I am trying to base a prestige class around those concepts.

He is the God of the Sun/Dawn.

I figured the PrC should have a big focus on fighting undead, but also mix in some good defensive abilities with a few offensive. Basically, I want a well rounded PrC that could encompass the various aspects of Lathander - let me know what you all think.

Thanks

Dude, I did the exact same thing a while ago. Basing it on the Radiant Servant was my first thought, but I noticed a couple problems with that. First, the Radiant Servant is way too powerful, and second, it's healing powers don't fit Lathander (as I see you've noticed). So I took some ideas from the Morninglord specialty priest from 2E.

My first suggestion is to drop BAB to Wizards. If you're going to get full spellcasting progression (you didn't list that, but I'm assuming) AND full undead turning, you've got to give up something.

The 2E Morninglord had two special abilities. One was the ability to cast Faerie Fire 1/day. The other was a +2 bonus to appraising, artistic ability, juggling, musical instrument, and pottery. Basically, I substituted out the healing abilities and threw in:
1) Faerie Fire as a spell-like ability
2) a bonus creativity feat, to be chosen from Skill Focus (appraise, craft, or perform) or Artist (from FRCS)

It's not a fair trade-off, but that's not what I was looking for. The Radiant Servant of Pelor is not balanced, so those are the changes I made to make it more balanced and more like Lathander than Pelor.

I also threw in the Timeless Body ability that's in a few PrCs, like the Mystic Wanderer. It's the one where they no longer are affected by age penalties (eternal youth, except they still die at the appointed time). Youth is part of Lathander's portfolio.

For prerequisites, I added Endurance, since Lathander is the god of athletics, and 5 ranks in Craft or Perform, since he also covers creativity. As a special prerequisite, I was thinking of some kind of ritual of rebirth that had to be performed by a high priest of Lathander.

That was the way *I* did it. You can't throw in more bonuses to the ton of bonuses you've already got in there, though. ;)
They're just suggestions for alternate abilities.

Thanks Chun-tzu

The bit about timeless body I think especially fits in.

I agree with you that the Radiant Servant is powerful - but not overpowerful. They have d6 hp and wizards BAB so they do give up a bunch to get the additional healing and undead powers.

I will agree its powerful, but I would freely allow it in my games.

I did not realize Lathander was so focused on creativity - I will have to review my books.

Thanks again,

and

Keep it coming.

Don't Radiant Servant's have the Cleric's BAB? A Wizard's BAB would balance them out more. As is, Radiant Servants are too powerful because they have full spellcasting, amplified undead turning, amplified healing, some special abilities, and all they lose are some hit dice.

Lathander's portfolio includes athletics, birth, creativity, dawn, renewal, self-perfection, spring, vitality and youth.

I could be mistaken - IDHMBWM and was going from memory.

I have a Cleric 6/ Radiant Servant of Pelor 1 in a RttToEE campaign a really good friend of mine runs. I thought that that was one of the key things I was giving up (because while my priest tends to focus on Pelor's portfolio of undead destruction and healing, everything matters in RttToEE). I did not mind because the PrC matched my character perfectly for roleplaying reasons, but it was a drawback.

I will check tonight when I go home from work.
