Clerical Familiar

Hi all-
A player in my campaign has a 4th level dwarven cleric. He would like to have a familiar. I am not opposed to this, so what should I require of him? I'm thinking some sort of Feat.
He would also like to be able to have this familiar cast some of his touch spells - like healing.
Has anybody else had this idea or concept? Is there a Feat or something in a published book or one that others have written?
Thanks for your help.

Hmm, there is a Celestial Companion in one of the PrCs in Defenders of Faith. If you just take that ability and turn it into a feat.

Or, you can just look at the wizard familiar chart and use that. For each cleric level gained he has an option to gain a level in the familiar (per the wiard chart). However, for each gain in level for the familiar a trade off is made for no advancement of turn undead abilities.

So, at 5th level, he could be a 5th level cleric with a familiar just like a 1st level Wizard and only turns undead as if a 4th level cleric.

(ie the level for the familiar and the equivalent turn undead ability total the level of the cleric).

Maybe make it a feat so that the option is even open to the character...

I like the idea of trading turn undead capabilities for familiar advancement. My cleric is more of a Bash Undead with Big axe type of guy than by my holy spirit will you be banished type of guy. hehehe.

There is a prestige class in the magic of faerun book. it looks like it was designed for a cleric. its called mystic wanderer and they get a familiar.

My cleric isn't built that way: He's a dwarf.
Wis = 16
Cha = 9.
So you see, I have a -1 cha bonus, therefore all divine feats kind of suck for me :)
I'd even trade my entire turn undead ability for a fully functional familiar.. hehe.
