Clerical Spell Suggestions?

Playing "Evil" can be fun, but don't forget there's lots of ways to do that. Just because you're CE doesn't mean you won't heal - heck, you might even heal for free - it's just that your application of the Heal spell is entirely self-interested.

That is to say: if your other party members stay alive, there's a higher chance you will survive.

....unless one of 'em stabs you in the back, of course. :)

Oh, I realize that - but one of the other 2 PCs is some type of undead, so Harm/inflict spells work for him, and the other is a psion with the healing-type powers (don't recall what they are called off-hand), so I'll need healing mainly for just myself. ;)

Hmm... doesn't Fast Healing work for undead, too?

I would definitely consider one of the Vigor line. Low level and fairly efficient. :)

An even better reason to have both handy. Can the UD PC cast/use inflict spells? How does he/she/it intend to "heal" himself? Sounds like you might have 'im by the short hairs......or whatever passes for that with UD. :heh:

Harm is a reasonable, if not excellent, combat spell. It has SR and Will save, though, so it's only really good against combat brutes that aren't extraplaner.

Take the Tomb Tainted Soul Feat from LM, then you can forget about cure spells entirly. Take Harm and som inflict spells, which you can use in combat and also to heal you. :cool:

Are al book available to you? If so I'll have some more suggestions once I get home from work. I'm playing a CE cleric myself.

I'm pretty sure the undead in the party has some version of fast-healing... or something. Not quite sure what, but he doesn't want to rely on me, I know. ;P

I’ll definitely have to look into this when I get home. ;)

All WOTC books (except for a few of the newer ones we don’t have), and some of the 3rd party books. Basically, as long as the GM can read the spell and decide if it’s okay, I can use it (I’ve created spells for his game in the past).

Later tonight I will post what spells I’ve chosen from the suggestions in this thread (I’ve read them all, even if I haven’t directly replied ;) ) and which ones I already had chosen, but I think I might still be missing a few spells of certain levels. Mainly the lower ones…

A look into the FR books might be worth it for some ideas, especially stuff like the Spider or Drow domains, which surely contain some very fitting spells. :)

I did take a look at the FR books.

FYI, Favored Souls don't get domains, and you can't use domain spells as part of your spell list unless you have the domain.

I'm well aware of that, but still some normal cleric spells, which fit thematically, could be found there. :)

Or your DM just allows you to learn domain spells just like cleric spells (but gain no domain or domain ability). That's a quite reasonable house rule, anyways.

OK now list list is without knowing any equipment you have, and assumes you are a straight Favored Soul with the Tomb Tainted Soul feat (if not you'll have to pepper some healing spell in there).

BoVD= Book of Vile Darkness
MHB= Miniatures Handbook
LM= Libris Mortis
CD= Complete Divine

1-Divine Favor, Sheild of Faith, Entropic Shield, Stupor(BoVD), Spider Hand(BoVD), Sanctuary
2- Silence, Hold Person, Shatter, Inflict Mod Wounds, Undetectable Align, Darkbolt(BoVD)
3- Stone Shape, Wrack(BoVD), Curse of the Petty Failing(MHB), Summon Undead III(LM), Invisibility Purge, Blindness/Deafness
4- Divine Power, Freedom of Movement, Restoration, Inflict Critical Wounds, Recitation(CD), Air Walk
5- Righteous Might, True Seeing, Slay Living, Flame Strike, Greater Command
6- Anti-life Shell, Harm, Wind Walk, Greater Dispel Magic
7- Ethereal Jaunt, Bestow Greater Curse, Imprison Soul

There's probably several other usefull spells, but these are from the books I had sitting by my computer. My CE Cleric makes good use of most of these. I particularly like using Recitation followed by a Curse of petty failing to give all enemies a -2 att/saves and one enemy a -4 att/saves because neither of these spells allow a saving throw. This really softens them up for my deaths spells. This list also provides a nice mix of spells that allow a Fort save with those that allow a Will save so you can target an enemies weaknesses. ;) I'd also recomend picking up the Mother Cyst feat from LM, it'll add quiet a few powerful spells to your list.

One of the big problems that you're going to face as a favored soul is that you can't use quicken spell. The ordinary tactics for a high level melee cleric would be to use quickened divine favor and quickened divine power (15th level clerics get 8th level spells if your DM isn't nuts and disallows Divine Metamagic). That enables a melee cleric to get started dealing damage in the first round of combat.

As a favored soul, you're going to have to either get your DM to let you take Arcane Preparation and apply it to divine spells along with Quicken Spell or do a LOT more pre-buffing than a cleric would.
