There are a few they missed:
- Space travel, whether across the solar system or across the galaxy, will take exactly as long as the plot requires.
- Aliens represent a single exaggerated human characteristic, e.g., violence, greed, etc.
- The government will always hide any contact with aliens to "prevent a panic," despite the large number of people familiar with the concept from popular media.
- The Achilles heel of the aliens is something mind-numbingly obvious and predictable, e.g., water, or viruses.
- People in the future never have visible fasteners for their clothes.
There are certainly a bunch more.
