I am working through a possible book on clockwork magic for d20 3E; i.e. clockwork people, making the DaVinci design for the "turtle" and "aerial screw" work, etc. If you had a wish list - or fears - for such a book, what would they be?

An expanded and better done versions of the Clockwork horrors. I really like these monsters and the society they have, but MM2 did not do them justice. The Adamatine Horror (a unique creature and leader of them) really should be higher then a CR of 9. I think it should be closer to 29.

I'd like to see 1001 options for clockwork creations. I'd really like to see rules for extremy large and complex items that are powerful but delicate as well as possible being unstable.

How is this different from all the steampunk d20 stuff about to come out? (I'm not trying to be snotty, I honestly am curious about the difference betweem clockwork and steampunk).

Under the system being worked out the difference is the power available. More power for a machine to work and do things would be available with steam power than with clockwork power. However, steam-power is unavailable.

Clockwork familiars. Extremely fragile.

Clockwork weapon enhancements, but nothing out of hand; e.g., a clockwork device that lets you draw a dagger as if Quick Draw feat.

Clockwork creatures - lots of 'em!

For more twisted characters, clockwork implants that graft onto (or into) your body.

My group would be *very* interested in this. Reason - we have a gnomish inventor (rogue/cleric actually) in our group. He has all kinds of unique gadgets that he made up and the DM approved. So far, I've seen him use a spring loaded scabbard spear and a squirt gun.

The scabbard is made of wood with a metal tip. He can fire it from his belt at enemies. The squirt gun can deliver alchemists fire, holy water, acid, or any similar substance twenty feet away (no range increments) with no splash. It is rather fragile though, and spills all over him on a 1.

So clockwork devices are like the owl, Bubo, from Clash of the Titans?
