A Golden Age (of comic books, at least) is when heroes are heroes, villains are evil but not blatantly unrepentant mass-murderers, continuity is a tool for good storytelling and not a "bad word," and comics themselves are meant as an escape from the problems of the real world rather than a twisted mimicry of them.

Alright, Question the first: "What makes a golden age golden?"

I think it is not in the degree of civilization or culture, but rather in the heroic proportions of the people. In the golden age, blood is redder, gold glitters more brightly, and hearts beat more furiously in the chests of men who shape the destiny of ages to come. The people who follow are just pale reflections of the glorious men of before.

The golden age is where the legends of civilizations are made, a time of heros and great adventure.

The golden age was when men strode the world like Gods and everything was possible and holy. When the love and enlightenment long fought for was revealed in all it's glory.
