Clutter

I agree that this is very annoying, especially for new players. I'll consider it good fortune that it mostly applies just to feats (powers and equipment are easier to go through, though some of the equipment categories are a pain to use). But yes, feats are just a huge jumble right now.

The person who DMed the Essentials Game Day adventure at my local store today said that the Character Builder is getting a HUGE revamp with the next update (I trust him, though I wasn't clear on exactly how he knew this). My guess is that this will include new and improved categorization for existing feats, along the lines of how it's done in Heroes of the Fallen Lands.

I think the new feat organization in the essentials will help the clutter a bit, but I do agree there are some stinker feats out there. I say lets have an errata just flat out remove these feats.

I'd love it if WotC did a 'spring-cleaning' of feats and did so in a hardcore, no nonsense fashion where they excised a good 50% of the trash... but I figured that's not going to happen which was why I put it to the community to do :)

One idea would be to go through the feats in the Compendium, one page at a time, and call out all feats that are too situational/overshadowed and offer a solution (either an update that brings them more up to speed or outright elimination).

The problem is so many of them I feel are just useless because they only get activated when you crit and the effects arn't that great. And that seems to be the cheap and dirty way to create a feat: Feat=Crit+ add a condition. I'm going to take a poll this weekend where we will have around 9-10 players at paragon level and see how many of them took a feat that activates with a crit roll. With over 50 feat slots, I'm sure the % will be very low if not 0.
That's so true.

I would never take one of those feats. I would never recommend one of my players to take one either. Actually I would discourage it.

I haven't had a close look at them to know how unbalancing it would be, but at least I'd start to look at them if they triggered on a roll of 15 or more as opposed to only a crit.
