CLW on a Wonderous Item

This proposed item has always been the prime example of why you must not allow players to look at that DM's Guide "Guidelines for Pricing Magic Items" table and let them pick from it like a menu.

To quote Monte Cook ( http://www.montecook.com/arch_dmonly3.html ):

The most important thing to remember is, Table 8-40 doesn't determine prices. It suggests them... When someone asks me, "Can I really make an item that will cast cure light wounds at will, activated by a command word, for only 900 gp?"I now reply, "Only if your DM isn't paying attention."

The Club of Healing - This large, heavy club requires two hands for use as a weapon by a medium creature and does 1d8 damage in addition to any normal modifiers that apply. Upon striking a target, that target also receives the effects of a Cure Light Wounds Spell (Caster Level 1) and is healed 1d8+1 points of damage.
"I'm only using an effective Strength of 2. Thus, I do 1d8-4 damage, and heal the target 1d8+1. Since we're not in combat, I should be able to automatically hit even with the Strength penalty..."

This is an important point. I posted my above description off the top of my head and didn't include the part of the "official" item description where it talks about the requirement to "swing with gusto". This is for an all-orcish-PC's one shot. Grumsh doesn't allow for any such pansy rules lawyering! :D

A better idea? perhaps give it charges, but let the charges be rechargeable at dawn only by giving up a turn undead attempt or something like that on a 1 by 1 basis. Maximum number of 5 charges or somthing like that.

*likes this idea*

*wonders if using a rebuke attempt will charge it with an inflict spell*

*wonders if a cleric can only use the cure function if he turns and only use the inflict function if he rebukes*

To expand on the Turn attempt conversion to charges deal:

I suggest that instead, this item grant a virtual feat that allows the cleric to use channel energy (use a turn attempt) to give a cure light wounds - or maybe a more poerwful spell like cure critical wounds..

Price it as 1/2 the price of a, say, 5 times per day cure light (or critical) wounds item.
