Noting a drastic drop in the number of half elves in the region.... humans have started filing for discrimination against Elven Nations.

"3-4 years ago a third of adventurers were half elven, now they are a rare sight indeed" said the local Mayor.

The elves responded by saying they have stopped going to Evermeet and the numbers of half breeds should go up again and that breeding was every elfs personal choice and they had nothing to do with it.

Half orcs on the contrary have seen a recent population explosion....

Economists have noticed in the last couple of years an increased demand for Great Swords. Many buyers seem to mention something about TooDeeSix...

Maces on the other hand have suffered major blows in the market. Clerical shoppers dissapeared once taboo issues about spilling blood were solved for various sects. Morningstars are back in strength as are some formerly clerically outlawed martial weapons.

Newcomer weapon the spiked chain has seen very good sales along with novelty weapons like dire flail and repeating xbow.

In the Armor business the chain shirt continues to make great sucess... mithral and regular versions... like the spiked chain an item never seen until some years ago. Chain mail like the maces have all but been relegated to former editions.

There seems to be many adventures signing up for Ranger School but there is a sharp decrease in enrollment after the Intrduction Class.

This maybe the due to the decline in the Half Elf population as they used to be the main students of the Ranger Class.

Also toads have become a common site now. Many people used to be afraid to pick up the wart causing creatures, now many wizards are afraid to have a toad more than arms length away.

Ranger classes do seem to have only introductory classes. Monks have appeared again in the Realms after a 10-15 year hiatus and Barbarians as well.

Formation tactics apparently arent all they used to be... most local adventurers inform that they no longer use linear arrangments.

According to recent passerby:
"Aye... forming a defensive line isnt the way to go anymore... we now try to flank monsters... somehow flanking them didnt work to well in the past... now everytime we flank ´em they fall apart faster. Rogues seems to get better results than before. Not so long ago our fellow rogue used to be useless in a good fight. Now he mocks us real warriors about not doing to much."

Tensions continue to mount between the Mages guild and the Jonny-come-lately Sorcerers guild. Sorcers claim Mages carry around scrolls just to show up the sorcerers superior spells per day, and as an aside point out that the mages are all boring book worms. Mage counter claim that Sorcerers are a bunch of walking wands without the magical creativity to make a new cantrip, and privately admitted to this reporter that they can't figure out why sorcerers get all the chicks.

Give Half-Elves a Break!

Yeah, I've also nitced the drop-off in the use of half-elves as a PC race. It bothers me.

From a role playing perspective, half-elves make perfect sense as adventurers. Thier inability to fully "fit-in" to either race's soceity (chiefly becuase of their mis-matched life-spans) makes them natural wonderers and experimenters.

One osf the cooles things about 3e is that it provided a rules based explanation and incentive for some cool role playing things. Whay are there all these magic items lying about? Because high-ish level characters can make them. Why do wizards often attach themselves to powerful fighters as "advisors"? Becasue being a wizard is really, really expensive and their relationship with the local Lord gives them access to the resoulces they need...

My House Rule solution is to give half-elves a small but useful advantage: They suffer NO penalty for multiclassing. This givens them the incentive to be "jacks of all trades' which, to my, is very "half-elven"...

Not to mention that before half elven had many advantages of elves without penalties and could basically multiclass an incredible number of combinations impossible to others.

Now they arent min/max wise worthwhile... we had ONE half elf in the last 2 years of gaming...
