(CoC) Anyone Play Yet?

How, in the name of th Great Cthulhu, did a bunch of college student have such an arsenal, and how, by Hastur, did they take it to a simple camping... :o :o
In the U.S., shotguns are somewhat cheap. They can go as low as $300, which is well within reach of a college student. Pistols and revolvers are harder to buy because they do average $500, but IMI Desert Eagles (which, in the U.S., are probably those built by Magnum Research here in Minneapolis) are expensive used or new so I can't explain them.

BTW, these PCs are just psycho.

Are you saying us they attacked the poor man, maybe the true owner of the land, without provocation? The ol' man only asked who were they, and the attacked?
Or your players use too much meta gaming knoledge or their characters are a bunch of psycos...

Yes, they did attack an innocent old man in cold blood, and if they get out of this alivem and someone finds out, then they're all going to jail for quite some time. Total bunch of loony pyschos, I'll be surprised in they last another 5 rounds.

Coc Rule 3) Never antogonize the people with the heaviest firepower.

IMHO, your players aren't suited for CoC. Maybe you could try another game, like classic hack & slash D&D or Feng Shui... :D

I've played two sessions now...
and on to a sanitarium next session, heh.
everyone survived, except my chauffer :(
i like it though...it's a nice change

You know what they say about men with big guns...:p

As a keeper, I've noticed people tend to bring along an arsenal even for grocery shopping when they know they're playing CoC.
Firearms might be generally available in some parts of the world and while I don't like that on a personal level, I accept the fact in a game. But still it wouldn't hurt to confront you players and ask them if they normally carry all those guns around.

On this note, I share Horatio's confusion.

Any almost 3/5 of US states anyone 21 years old without a criminal record MUST be granted a concealed weapons permit.

Also many US National Forests have an undeserved reputation for dangerous drug dealers.

It wouldn't be unreasonable for a college student in the US to carry a gun although the .50 Desert Eagle would be really unlikely.

More likely would be an inexpensive ($100 or so) 9mm automatic or a revolver (.357) in the $200 range.

However a gun is regarded in the US as a fitting gift so said PC may have been given one or saved a few bucks and gotten a better model.

Sorry, sorry, sorry...

Are you trying to say me that in the Real Life US of America college students usually carry concealed handguns?
Are you telling me that in RL USA it's usual going to camp with some guns?
Are you explaining me tha in RL USA it would be normal give a handgun as birthday present?

If that's true, sorry, but it scares me. It really scares me.

Historically, concealed handguns have been illegal almost everywhere in the US -- until recently, in certain states (e.g. Texas, Florida), with a license. In other states it is technically legal with a license, but getting a concealed-weapon permit usually means knowing the police chief personally.

It's important to understand that gun laws vary tremendously across the US -- as do gun attitudes. Many "pro gun" states are rural states with a strong hunting tradition, and the gun laws may not favor handguns at all, just rifles and shotguns. Urban areas like New York City may be gun-free zones (de jure, but not at all de facto). In many cases, the gun laws don't seem to make much sense. In California, you can own a gun, and you can carry it down the street in plain view (technically), but you can't carry it with any ammo on your person.

Camping? Probably not. Hunting? Certainly.

No, not at all. Kids on the farm used to get a .22 rifle though.

If that's true, sorry, but it scares me. It really scares me.

It may scare you, but you should put things in perspective. I don't think I've ever seen a handgun in my day-to-day life in the US -- except at a gun range. I've certainly never seen a gun pulled on anyone or brandished in anger.

As previously stated, it is not usual, and it should never happen on any campus (although I have seen this on a campus), getting a concealed weapons permit is not that difficult.

I would say yes. A pistol is handy just because you never know what you will encounter in the wild. A .357 magnum shot to the sky scares off most anything.

I have received them and I own several guns.

If handguns were legal in Spain, there would be no terrorism by ETA. My girlfriend is European (from Madrid), and had this attitude until I let her hold a gun, explained how bullets and guns work and she is much more relaxed around them. Guns are inert and don't kill people. What scares me are countries where people like ETA members are allowed to walk free and kill at will, the citizens are not allowed to defend themselves, and the government is too scared to do anything. ETA assassins use 9mms, and are in Spain.

I can just not think of anyone carrying a weapon in civilian life anywhere for any reason. I can not think of anyone who would give a weapon as a gift to anyone (for other than ornamental purposes, and even then!)
I cannot understand, althought I have the greatest respect for ohter peoples beliefs and customs, the casualness and the matter-of-factness with which you can speak about this.

It just shows how different our societies are under that thin veneer of similarities.

Anyway: I have the greatest respect, but I'll probably never understand.
