(CoC) Anyone Play Yet?

Unfortunately one of them was mauled by a strange, mangy/diseased bear (or at least that's how they recall it) in the ruins of an ancient indian burial site in rural Maine. Upon returning to Arkham, Prof Grady is now convinced that what attacked him was indeed no bear at all, but rather some sort of loathesome, bipedal creature of unknown origins.

Now the professors are preparing for a return to the site, with possibly a few of their friends from the writers club that they meet with on alternating Wednesdays.

Sunday we shall return to the dark woods and find out what madness lies therein...

Sounds like a very good start. :)

My lil CoC Game

I've had the fortune to run two CoC sessions already. The players, hot on the trail of some alcohol smugglers (it's the 20's, prohibition, remember?) Tracked them down to a beachhead only to find these so-called smugglers involved in some crazy voodoo-ish ritual, apparently involving human sacrifice. Making the decision that this was not good, they ran in, revolvers cocked, to put an end to this crackpottery, only to be caught up in a strage, unworldly mist that eventually deposited them on the path to the world of dreams. Now i've got them about to enter the dreamlands, which they know nothing about. This is going to be sanity-blasting fun for the whole family.

I got to DM COC for the 1st time last weekend. The group was some what combat oriented so i little detctive work lots of cult members and monsters....

Anyways throughout the session I had one guy die to a bullet and 2 more end up unconsious from to much damage... and finally after slaying some zombies that had taken over a ship they were on one of the pc lost his mind and became a Necrophilic =P Cthulhu... the game where you just as likely to shoot a corpse at make love to it hehehe

My CoC

I ran my first CoC game last night. All my players made themselves as characters, and I ran the introductory Dark?Matter adventure "Exit 23".

The PCs were looking for me since I had not shown up for the ski trip they were going on. On the way back to the city where we live, they were caught in a terrible snowstorm and forced to stop at a nearby gas station/rest stop.

Much awfulness ensued as the wierd French-Canadian cultist and his berserk winder-demon* shot, froze, stabbed, punched, and ate PCs and NPCs alike. The best part was, on PC kept failing sanity checks by one or two and then suffering screaming fits every time!

Well, all the PCs lived through the night :( but, when they got home and went to my house they found not but blood, blood, runes and circles painted in blood, and blood. There ended the session (with that one PC suffering another screaming fit!).

*Winter-Demon (a.k.a. half-fiendish ice mephit): CR 5; Small-Size outsider; HD 3d8+3; hp 16; Init +7; Spd 30 ft., fly 50 ft. perfect; AC 19 (touch 14, flat-footed 16); Atk +6 melee (1d4+2 and 2 cold, 2 claws), +1 melee (1d3+1 and 2 cold, bite); SA breath weapon, spell-like abilities; SQ cold subtype, fast healing 2, darkvision 60 ft., poison immunity, acid & electricity immunity; AL CE; SV Fort +4, Ref +6, Will +3; Str 14, Dex 17, Con 12, Int 16, Wis 11, Cha 17.

Breath Weapon (Su): Cone of ice shards; 10 ft. cone, damage 1d4, Ref save DC 12, -4 morale penalty to AC, -2 to attack for 3 rounds.

Skills and Feats: Bluff +9, Hide +13, Listen +3, Move Silently +9, Spot +6, Tumble +6; Improved Initiative.

My group is playing college students at Miskatonic U. A sociology/enviormental major heard from a friend in the park service that the area around the small town of Dunwich was perfect for a little backpacking trip, and she managed to convince her friends to join her.

Right now it is sunset at their small camp near a stream and largish hill, and everything is nice and quiet...

Accomplishments
-Deciding where to eat lunch on the drive up
-Setting up camp
-Building a fire
-Killing a squirrel

Downsides
-Weapons
We have 2 Desert Eagles, a 12 gauge shotgun, several combat knives and a woodaxe.
I asked my group what they were taking, and this is what one person said.

"Tent, raingear, flashlight, trail food, lots of water and water purification tablets, and an IMI .50 AE Desert Eagle."

The most powerful handgun in the world for a camping trip. Seems he has a little OoC knowledge about what happens when young people go camping, too bad he doesn't know how little a gun will hurt a Mythos creature. Aheheheheheh...

How, in the name of th Great Cthulhu, did a bunch of college student have such an arsenal, and how, by Hastur, did they take it to a simple camping... :o :o

Horacio, laws in the US are not what they are over here. The closest I have ever come to a gun, was on the shooting stand on a fair. I believe this would be the same for most Europeans.
Every culture has it's vitues and vices. Minors in Europe can't have guns, they just smoke and drink.

But storywise, I agree with you point. I can't imagine anybody going on a camping trip with an arsenal like that. They seem to be better equiped than most Miskatonic university artic expeditions.:D

What college student -- remember, these are guys usually scrounging up cash for beer -- has an IMI .50 AE Desert Eagle? Any gun costs hundreds of dollars, but the Desert Eagle is a huge, expensive pistol with huge, expensive ammo.

Now add in the fact that we're talking about a quiet New England town, and it's totally implausible. Down south? Well, they wouldn't have Desert Eagles, but the whole group might have hunting rifles and shotguns.
