[CoC] Vitality/Wounds vs Hit Points

I tried using Vp/Wp, but found that

- Players have to many hitpoints
- It felt unbalanced with regard to the MonsterManual HP
- Was a little slower with bookkeeping.

I tried HP=Con+lvl+classmod, and found that

- rather statisfying that HP where not THAT level dependend
- It felt unbalanced with regard to the MonsterManual HP
- was more bookkeeping recalculating NPC's
- was still rather impressed

I still try HP according to CoCD20, with MssveDmg rule, and find it

- Easy, I'm used too HP's
- Find it a litlle heroic
- Is in balance with the rest of D20 I own
- MassvgeDmg rule will (almost) never aply with fewbut lotsa dmg.
- Hate the idea of Einstein with zillion hitpoints

I dunno, keep on testing and trying. Propably will stick to HP's with MsvDmg rule adjusted to 10hp dmg per scene or untill the wounds are tended.

Re: Massive Damage

I use the Hit Point System that d20 CoC uses. And the Massive Damage rule in d20 CoC makes it quite deadly.
The only change I made is that if a character sustains 16 or more points of damage in a single attack, that character must make a Fortitude saving throw equal to damage taken.
And 10 to 15 points of damage still equal Fort DC 15.

Peace and smiles :)

Sounds good to me. I was wondering how to adapt CoCd20 massive damage rules to D&D. Fifteen hits appears to be adequate in relation to medium sized humanoids, but it still kind too little to really large critters. How CoCd20 handle it? I was thinking of using the character CON as the massive damage number.

In d20 CoC, only human PCs check for massive damage when they take 10 damage points or more. The massive damage threshold for creatures, however, is 50, just like in regular D&D (and for everybody in D&D, PCs included).

All right, but I was thinking of using this rule in D&D to obtain a more gritty fantasy game. In that case, I would need to adjust the threshold according to the size classes. Perhaps I could use some simple scale such as 5. 10, 15, 20, and so on.

I have a page on using VP/WP for D&D here:

http://www.zipworld.com.au/~hong/dnd/vpwp_dnd.htm

You could use that for any game that also uses hit points.

Basically the two systems are already very similar, mechanically speaking. VP == hit points, and WP == zero hp, extended to cover a meaningful range. The differences are mainly in how crits are treated, and how fast you regain your hp/VP.
